Smile Made annual trip to Cascade to chase jumbos again.  Arrived afternoon of the 8th and was able to get on the ice about 4:00.  Open water next to shore, but was able to wade it and get on solid ice. Walking in snow is getting more difficult for me in my old age, so we only walked out about 200 yds from west side.  Water was 7’ deep there.  Wanted to go deeper, but decided to give it a try anyway.  Sure glad we did!  Must have stopped right over a big school of jumbos bc we immediately hooked up.  Iced 12 in about an hour and lost 5 others.  A few dinks, too.
Back to same spot next morning.  Fish were gone.  We moved out to 18’ then 35’ and finally iced 6 more.  Storm moved in and next day iced Just one keeper, but a lot of dinks.  On last day got 3 before having to leave for home.  Best lure was white/pink jigs with 1” of blood worm.  Second best was pink maggots on same jigs.
Ice at mid lake on west side was 8”, dropping to 7” out in middle of lake.
Didn’t go north to island, but heard it was slow up there.  Blue Heron was a hot spot on east side.
Checked in at Tackle Toms on way out, they said best bite was 4 to10 fow.  We spent way too much time looking for them in deeper water where we found them last year.  We did ok, but should have paid more attention to anglers fishing closer to shore.  Always a great trip up there and we brought home enough filets for lots of fish tacos!!!

FYI, Tackle Toms has a new owner.  Best regards to all of you …
Did you happen to be wearing a Strikerice Flotation Jacket? Smile
No doubt, those are nice sized perch...too bad you have to go so far to get 'em, but if the whole trip is part of the vacation, then it's definitely worth it..way to go..
