A couple of us made it back to Deer Creek today.  We launched at the main boat ramp and fished the same area as our previous trips.  We used fast sinking lines and size 6 & 8 leech and bugger patterns in red/green/yellow and red/yellow/orange.  We picked up six fish, all rainbows from 14" to 19" long.  We had a few other hits but not many.  Each time we have gone there the fishing has gotten slower.  The weather was great for the end of January.

The water temperature was 36-37 degrees and the visibility in the water was about 8'.  The reservoir is almost 80% full and rising.

There were a few shore anglers, three kayaks, and one guy on a pontoon.  Some of the folks on shore were getting bites but having a hard time getting the fish in.  We had a couple of ice sheets from the north end of the reservoir float by in the afternoon.  The parks folks had one lane plowed on the ramp for the boaters.  There is still a lot of open water to fish.


There were a couple of adult bald eagles and one youngster while we were there.  There were also four Loons on the water.  I have never seen them this time of year before.  It's usually not until March/April that they start to show up.

Great report and pics, sounds like a un trip. With the loons being here so early, it makes me wonder if they know something we don't
It has been a few years since I have fished DC but what is that structure in the background of the loons? Looks like a truck parked on it and a semi-truck and trailer, it almost looks like some sort of barge.

That is the construction crew making the upgrades to the dam.

Great info Shane, thanks for the info and pic. How was the pic taken, from a drone?

I’m sure it is from a drone.
There will be a tunnel added to help mix deep cold water with warmer upper layer water.
There will also be a type of new liner added to tunnel that AIS can’t ‘stick’ to.

That is good information, thanks for sharing that.

It will be interesting to see how that will change the fishing in the Lower Provo.
