I am a new member and I like reading the tips here and getting ideas of where to fish. I went to Mantua on Sat 3-6-04 with the idea of an ice fishing trip. When I got to the parking area on the south dike there were only 4 people out on the ice. One guy who was leaving said several people broke through trying to get onto the ice. It looked like there was about 20 feet of thin ice or broken ice to where it looked safe. The ones on the ice had waders on to walk through the water to access the good ice. He reported it was slow fishing that day so I decided to bag it and go home. Several weeks ago I had a blast there with bluegill, bass, rainbow and perch all taking a white "Trout Magnet" jig about 4 to 5 feet below the ice. The ice was 15" thick them. I enjoy meeting new fishing friends, learning new techniques, and sharing stories. Acey

It has been several years since I have done a lot of catfishing here. There are quite a few deep holes along the Bear River east of Tremonton where there are some large channel cats taken in the summers. A friend catches quite a few along the river in the Bear River City area, and I have heard reports of good catfishing in the Bear along Corinne before it gets to the Great Salt Lake and the marshes. Several years ago we would take the lantern and bank fish the river at night using chicken livers or worms and caught a few channel cats, mudcats, and carp in the Collinston area on a friend's property. There is a public boat ramp and access to the river by the bridge two miles east of the Crossroads at the East end of Tremonton. The river gets pretty shallow in the summer when the water is taken out for irrigation at Cutler Dam. A lot of people fish the river below Cutler Dam and in the reservoir at Cache Juncton, but I haven't been too impressed with the fishing in Cutler Res. Since I got a boat last year I have done mostly small lake fishing, but it can be lots of fun out along the river too. Alan
