Me and Ronda fished willow today, around 2 p.m. Tried everything in the tackle box, and couldn't buy a bite. Finally, she caught a planter bow on rainbow powerbait around 4. We went to leave, and at one of the reed banks a 2 pound largemouth was sitting there. I wound up catching him on a gitzit. He was released to live another day.

Where were you on the pond? I was also up there and left around 3. caught 4 nice rainbows and lost a few more on a gold castmaster. The catching was bad today I think the amount of people around the pond made them a bit shy.
I didn't think the bass were that big yet. I see tons of small bass near the shoreline all the time. Not sure if they planted them again this year. I love it when the resident "experts" tell me that they are small rainbow's and not bass, lol. Sounds like you had fun, awesome!!!

Over off of the point with the big trees on it. You did better than us, thats for sure! Oh well, playing cards is always fun. That bass was probably on of the first ones ever stocked in there. He was just lucky I saw him first! Anyone one ealse on that lake would have kept him.

LOL, Anyone else wouldn't have known how to catch him [
![Smile Smile](https://bigfishtackle.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)
] They would probably dangle powerbait in his face and wonder why he ain't hungry [sly]

LOL! A couple of those little kids that were there actually said he wouldn't eat for them. I asked them what they were using, and you guessed it: Powerbait! Go figure!

Did you read the report that tubedude put in Shrimpboys post ?

Thats insane! That fish was nuts!

I got there about 430 and me and my daughter fished till 7pm.We didnt catch a thing but a guy fishing on the south end was nailing them witha rainbow rapala as it was turning dark.I have been there twice and skunked both times.I saw a bunch of big trout right under the dock but they wouldnt bite for nothing .I tried crawlers and meal worms and nothing!
[signature]
Are you sure they were trout? The largies like to hang out there.
[signature]
They had the dots on their sides and were silver skinnned. But it was a little dark though hard to really tell .

I was there also we were under the ladys that keeped flying the kite over us and would come down on us or the water in front of us. we had not hit there so we went about 430 I never saw a fish hooked at all over by the point with the tree?

[cool][blue]Hey guys, I could not dig back through the paper's archives and find the original artical, but they had an abbreviated version in the Outdoor section. It did not mention the powerbait in the second article, but that was a big issue in the main article. The guy was fishing a small piece of powerbait under a bobber, for the hatchery pet rainbows they stock during the winter months. Took him over 30 minutes to land it on his discount store outfit and 4# line. [/blue]
[blue]Didn't say, but the Snoopy rods are popular with the UN-PROS down here. A little girl landed a 14 pound bass last spring on a Snoopy rod from Kmart.[/blue]
[red][/red][red]Hey guys...I'm editing this in. If you click on the title in blue, on the article, it will link you to the original story.

How many people can you feed with a 13-pound largemouth bass? Tom Rednour Jr. of Tempe has the answer. The bass that Rednour and his family devoured turned out to be a new Arizona urban lake record at 13.3 pounds.

[mad] [#800080]Oh My Heck!!!! Has the sun fried their brains? A sacred Mother of baby bassys. What is going on in zonaland? Have they heard of CPR? !@$%^&*%$#@#$%&^$%%$#%^ Don't make me come down there and Whup some BUTTS! A beautiful creature such as herself shouldn't be digested! She needs to be released to spawn another day. I'm sick. I think I need a sedative. Where's my pistola! [mad][/#800080]

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Tomegun, I don't know if it's any consolation or not, but there is a large group of Zoney bassers that are very serious abou their C&R. Most big mamas get their picture took and go back in the water with a big smooch.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Problem is, some of our bass are just plain dumb, or don't read the same books about bass behavior that we do. Every spring the crappie flotilla on Roosevelt lake drags in some ten plus pounders on crappie jigs. Most of those go on the rope stringer, along with as many crappies as they can catch.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Heard tell about some "cooler clown" that got his lights punched out by some of the bassers when he brought in 3 bass over 10 pounds he got on live waterdogs. All were dead and all destined for the freezer. The bassers waited til he got outside and then thumped his melon and took his fish. They could not revive any of them. Almost couldn't revive the "conservationist". I'll bet he doesn't go braggin' on keepin' big bass again...at least at a spot the pros go to restock their gear and tell their own lies.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If ya think it would do any good, come on down. There will be several bass over 15 pounds taken in the next month. Why not one for you? There was one C&R verified over 17 last year.[/#0000ff]

I saw that dummie. No brains at all. I had her keep the rod low. I really didn't want to have 10,000 lines in over us. Nice and easy. Heck, that trout never even came out of the water. That fishing sucked yesterday! Yep, the point with the tree. We were casting pretty much south.
[signature]
Man, that's amazing. One hell of a bass. I'd be guilty of keeping it too, though. I've already kept one 10lber in Utah. 1 oz. under state record. Oh well, there's gotta be another one out there for me.
[signature]
[cool][blue]Hey, Kid, don't let anybody ever tell you it is a crime to keep a fish. C&R is a personal matter, and is usually practiced by more experienced anglers who have had the opportunity to catch lots of fish, and maybe lots of big fish. They have been there and done that, so it's no big thing to them to release their fish. [/blue]
[blue]A young person or newcomer to fishing, however, has a tough time overcoming the excitement of the great catch. They naturally want to show it off and relive the moment. Sometimes the big fish go on the wall. Too often they go in the freezer, where they stay until the fins are broken off and they are too freezer burned to eat. That is a waste.[/blue]
[#0000ff]Some C&R folks release all their fish "because they don't like to eat fish anyway". That's cool, and a good reason to let them go. On the other hand, plenty of folks who DO like to eat fish are very selective about what they keep, and how many. That shows more real restraint, in my opinion.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There's an old saying...which should mean something to a young man actively involved in chasing young ladies..."If you love it, let it go." What greater respect and love can you show a big beautiful fish than to thank it for the pleasure it provided and then help revive it and send it back home?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]So, what if somebody else catches that fish someday soon after...and takes it home to eat it? Too bad for the fish and too bad for the fishery. At least you had the pleasure of experiencing the fish, and you passed it along for someone else to enjoy. Good for you. It may take more time for the other person to reach your state of higher feelings. Too bad for them.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Yeah, I keep plenty of fish, but usually from the species that are both prolific and tasty. In the past I have learned that the bigger specimens of most species are not as good on the table anyway. If you want to keep some bass, thin out the smaller ones for the table. They are tasty and not reproducing age anyway. Better yet, assault the perch or white bass populations.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I've read your posts, young man, and I do not think you have to apologize to anyone. You release plenty of fish. Keeping that big mama may have ended the gene pool for a family of large fish, but in Utah at least, it may have been approaching the end of its productive life anyway. Still, it was your call to make and you deal with it however you want to. Just don't ever do it again...in front of Tomegun.[/#0000ff]

I still haven't tried Willow pond and I did'nt know there was largemouth in there. I guess they just plant whatever they feel like in there at any givin moment. Nice catch kid.[cool]
[signature]
I believe the current regulations statewide state that all largies over 12" must go back into the water anyways. At least I know that all small and largemouth bass in Utah Lake, Jordanelle, and many other waters are that way, I'm just not sure if it's statewide. So be careful to know the regulations on the water you're fishing if you plan to keep a bigger one.
[cool] Lovin this warm weather!
[signature]
That big girl came out of Stansburry about 10 years ago. It isn't a state wide regulation. Up at pine view, its all bass under 12", and ealse where its the same way. Where I fish in the desert its 6 bass any size. I've made pretty sure I'm legal when it comes to keeping them.
