I MAY BE GOING UP TO VISIT A BUDDY FROM THE "OLD NEIGBORHOOD" I GREW UP IN, HE LIVES IN HEBER RIGHT NEXT TO DEER CREEK. HE SAYS HE WANTS TO GO FISHING, SO WE MAY BE OUT THERE. WHAT IS THE WATER SITUATION, ICE, NO ICE AND WHAT SHOULD I BE EXPECTING...I WAS THINKING OF TAKEING SOME FLYS, MAYBE NOT MY FLY ROD....BUT TROLLING THE FLYS OR CASTING THEM TO SHORE ON MY SPINNING OUTFIT BEHIND A CLEAR BOBBER OR AMYBE A SLIP BOBBER....GOTTA LOVE THEM WING ITS....SO I THINK HE IS FAIRLY INEXPERIENCED, I DONT REMEMBER HIM DOING MUCH FISHING, BUT HE SAYS HE STILL LIKES IT, HE SAID I ALMOST WORE HIM OUT OF IT AS KIDS...I WANTED TO GO TO THE STREAM BY OUR HOUSE DAILY AND HOOK BROOKIES ACROSS THE ROAD FROM LA CALLEI, LAH KAH EYE, THAT RESTURAUNT AT THE MOUTH OF LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, ANYWAY.....WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT, IS IT TOO EARLY FOR EYES, I KNOW BASS MAY OR MAY NOT BE BITING, BUT NO FAST ACTION YET, ARE THE TROUT MY BEST BET OR WHAT? IM NOT TOO GOOD AT WATER TEMPS AND STRATOSPHERIC PRESSURES, OR MOON PHASES EVEN, I HAVE A WATCH THAT HAS THEM AND I CANT READ IT..LOL...ANYWAY...WHATS UP WITH THE DEER....LET ME KNOW.

The ice should be all the way off or pretty close to that by the time you get up there. We put a boat in last Friday and Saturday and the fishing was slow. If you want to catch fish stay really close to the shore line. If I were to go again I would probably hang a worm below a bubble within a couple feet of the edge.

I agree with luvr... right now trout fishing the remaining edges would be your best bet.. and i know that there are some big trout in there! I was thinking of goin up there with the canoe this weekend but i will be out on the bear with my cat rod in hand...

What are the conditions at the boat launch area. Do the ramps reach the waters edge?

We put the boat in at the island marina. You have to launch your boat in the grave to the south of the ramp because the water was still about eight feet from the cement. There is a cable running down the beach to the south of the ramp. We first tried to put a boat in straight down from the cable and ended up hitting the trailer on a cement block in the water. The best place we found to launch is 10 to 15 feet south of that cable. The north side of the cable is a little more shallow. The south side was slightly steeper and seemed to have better gravel for traction. We launched two different boats and didn't have a problem either time with getting stuck. A truck and boat tried to launch on the north side of the cable and had to get way out to even get close to launching. After we launched we told them to move to where we launched and they got in without any problems. I would make sure you have four wheel drive just in case.
We trolled all over that damn lake without much luck so I don't have any other good ideas as far as trolling. If I were to go back out I would hit the edges like I said and try some jigs and maybe some baits.
Good luck

Thanks fishluvr for the update on the boat ramp... and 8 more feet of water to go for it to reach the ramp. I think the deer creek is slowly filling up now with the snow run off and then theres some supposedely rain coming friday night... so more water! Yahoo... however this time of the year is too early for walleyes to get active... end of april/may would be the best time. Willard follows the Deer Creek's schedule as far as walleyes go... same thing with smallies. The water is simply just too cold right now except for trout which can bite in cold water. Right now, Utah Lake with her bird island would be the best bet for eyes, bass and cats.
I cannot wait for April/May to roll around because I love fishing deer creek's eyes!
I know the bite will turn on very strong because there will be a full moon toward the end of next week. This is the transition season, the changing of the guard for the fish to cut loose once the full moon hits for the year...
