FISHING: Fair
Flow: 48 cfs below Dillon

Clarity: Excellent

Water Temperature: High 30’s to low 40’s

Major Food Organisms: Midges

Hatches: Midges

14 Day Forecast: Look for flows to range between 50-100 cfs for the next several weeks in the Silverthorne area. Anglers will begin to see signs of run-off on warmer days, as the feeder creeks begin to swell. The first creek is only 100 yards below the Dam, and can cause major discoloration of the river. The lower river is now fishable, and things are picking up.

Tips and Other Information: Fishing remains fairly productive on the Blue River in the town of Silverthorne. Below Dillon Dam fish with your standard tail water selections: #22 Black Beauty’s, #24 Top Secret Midge, #22 Mercury Baetis, #22 Sparkle Wing RS II, #18 Micro San Juan Worms, #22 Brown WD 40’s, #22 Mercury Blood Midge, and #22 Smith’s Baetis. Anything with red (blood midges) lately has been very effective. Sight nymphing is mandatory if you plan on being successful. Overcast days have been best, but it is vary hard to sight nymph with the flat light. It’s not uncommon to see some midging fish, and a Parachute Adams in a size 26 is a great fly choice. The lower river is now fishing quite well. Barney Cohen reports excellent rainbow fishing several miles outside of town. Fish are eating small Pheasant Tails, and RS II’s.

Effective Patterns: #16-18 Mysis Shrimp, #14 Pink San Juan Worm, #22 Mercury Blood Midge, #20 Miracle Nymph, #20-22 Mercury Midge, #18 Mercury PMD, #12 Green Drake Nymph, #8 Stonefly Nymphs, #18 Mercury Pheasant Tail, #22 Baetis Nymph, #22 Brassie, #20-22 Black Beauty, #20 Blood Midge, #14 Bead Head Prince, #14 Bead Head Breadcrust, #14 Bead Head Pheasant Tails, and #20-22 WD 40 Brown
