hey lakelurker

Welcome to BFT!![Smile]

I would have to say my favorite is jigging with live bait or with just soft plastics. But trolling crankbaits is also a lot of fun when fishing for walleye.

But are all your tactics the same during night fishing?

well usually during the night i will usually use some kind of crankbait. or live bait.I rarely use soft plastics for walleye at night. If i use live bait i will use a lindy rig. When i fish at night for walleye i like fishing from the shore and using shallow running rapalas. those are my favorite, because at night they come in and feed and i most likely will have some luck. I fish the Missouri River a lot for walleye. What do u prefer?

I fish mostly at night for walleye at a local lake here in PA.The Yough.I too like fishing for them from the bank with crankbaits, only they seem to like the larger rapalas especially at night.I'm talking 5" and better. My friend and I have done quite well over the years from the bank, but this year we want to try all night from a boat to see if this will increase our luck.Last year our best was a 25 1/2" that we caught 10 min.before sunrise. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions.I do like the idea of trolling a lindy rig along drop-offs and sand flats.Ideas?

I usually jig in the early season, but trolling slow can be very effective too. As the water warms up more, I add rattles, and sometimes spinners to my jigs. Also a twister is great.

I have to agree with trolling big baits after dark. Alot of people I've talked to that do real well trolling say they use cranks in the #9 or bigger. Although, you will get alot of nice eaters on the #5, and #7's.

For shallow cranks for walleye i will use number 7 and number 9 rapalas. i will go smaller if its needed.

i also love using jigs with a twister on it!![Smile]

YOUR GONNA LOVE HEARING THIS !
STEELHEAD FISHING TODAY I COUGHT AROUND 20 WALEYE , SMALLEST ONE MEASURED 20" , THE LARGEST WAS AS BIG AS A LOG AND I COULDN'T GET A SALMON NET ON IT .
THE LARGE ONE WAS BIGGER THAN ANY DETROIT RIVER EYE THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN , AND I'VE HAD MANY TROPHY FISH FROM THERE . IT WAS WELL IN EXCESS OF A YARD LONG , POSSIBLY 4 FT.
NOW I'VE LANDED KING SALMON , COHO SALMON AND STEELHEAD WITH THIS ROD , THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT THE ROD WAS GOING TO SNAP IN TWO .
JUST THINK , IF I WOULD HAVE LANDED IT , I MIGHT BE SPORTING A PRETTY GOOD RECORD FISH PHOTO , WALLEYE SEASON ISN'T OPEN HERE YET .

after a few months of cabin fever , finally the ice is gone . and it snowed last night . must me mother natures idea of a late april fools joke .

had my fill of the cold stuff and i'm waiting for bekini weather to set in [cool] .

any chance at going outside , whipping the rod around and catching a few fish without the aid of a snowshovel is reason to celebrate [Smile] .

the spring spawning runs are worth the wait thou , the biggest badest fish in the great lakes are always up to testing out an anglers skills . i'm willing to give them a chance at proving themselves if there feeling like there fish enough to take me on in a battle [crazy].

now if ya ever get stuck catching a bunch of small fry fish , try this little tip .

release the fish , but before you do , insult it's mamma tell it to go ahead and get it's big brother word is on the river is "he eats rubber worms and likes it !" [shocked]

yep a few insults to the fishes family and maybe the old grand daddy of all fish will come to have a word or two with you , just be ready to take him on .

good fishing to you !

your pal , al
