Why did the county put a gate at lincoln beach? It doesnt give you access to the north side by vehicle anymore. You have to walk to get to the warm springs.I cant understand the reasoning for it can someone enlighten me why the county wasted money on a gate?[unsure]

I don't know, but that sure sucks if it's true![pirate] Maybe they got tired of all of the damn litter bugs that hang out there. I have never seen so much litter in all my life at one fishery as I did at Lincoln Beach by the third springs a few weeks ago when I went. I even saw a pizza box among many other things. You'd think they'd at least put up some trash cans before they put a gate up!
I heard that your not supposed to park off of that paved road, but everyone does it. Maybe they got tired of seeing all of the illegaly parked cars there.

You are probably right but why didnt they gate the other side ?

[unsure]I think it actually quite simple.. I figure the "state" wants to take away all of our free access to fair-excellent locations they know are visited often, and nickle and dime us to death. But thats merely one man's oppinion..

that sucks. but i dont ever drive down there anyway. but that is only because i drive a little honda civic.

yep coldfooter i think your right they are going to try and make it like california were you cant even think about parking near the lake and have to walk a mile or to just to get to the water.. or you can pay the 5.00 to 12.00 to inter the state park..and park closer to the water and have 5 million stupid people all over the place your trying to fish.. thats my oppinion tho..
dude on fish?

Why doesn't somebody call and ask them about the gate instead of complaining about a gate.
Do what us Southern boys do about stuff like that. A good chain, a truck, and some stupidity=no more problem.

Well over the years I've notice fences going up more and more on most body's of water to funnel us through the pay stations and I think its very selfish.. I dont mind tossing in a few token's now and then if I choose to drive through the gate but there should remain free (easy) access for those that cant afford the price of a gate pass,, and believe me, there are lots of folks that cant afford it..

[#800080][size 2]I think it maybe a good thing. Now, the poachers can't drive a truck down to the water and fill the bed full of fish. The is a very high possibility that the white bass and crappie populations are decimated. next, comes the walleye and the largemouth bass. Let them take all the june suckers they want. You have a good point Tgun!! Sometimes there are enough of them to create a 5gal. bucket brigade to the road.

Putting a gate up is the cheapest altrenative to keeping the people, and mostly, the TRASH out of the area. If they put trash cans down there, then they would have to pay someone to empty them and the state's budget is very thin again this year. Sadly, one bad apple ruined it for everyone.

I dont see it as a way to keep the trash out, but merely away to give lazy people a bigger exuse to leave their trash behind. The gate wont stop people from going in that area to fish, that will happen reguardless. Seems to me if they had enough funds to build a gate to keep people from driving in there,, they had more than enough funds to set a couple trash can out there.. But thats merely my oppinion...........

Judging by the way everyone here has reacted to the fact that there is a gate there I think it will keep the lazy people out and by keeping the lazy people out, you also keep their trash out. Like I said, buying a trash can is cheap, hiring someone to empty it weekly....not so cheap. Only time will tell if it will effect the amount of trash in the area.

You don't put a couple cans out there you put some dumsters there they pick it up with a truck the whole thing costs aboiut $30-40 a month to service. I know I used to live in a very isolated area. had a dumster they dumped twice a month for $30 a bigger dumster was $40 for the same time period.
I think if they put enough out there then they'd get a good break on price or even have their own truck to dump it and deliver it to the dump.

Regardless of what the cost for a dumpster would be I think you are missing the point, the gate is designed to keep people out! Thanks to a bunch of slobs we now all have to suffer the consequenses. Even though I am sure none of us left the garbage, maybe if each one of us would have picked some of it up when we were there the gate might not be there now. I know I am guilty of stepping over the trash while I was there, oh well hindsight is always 20/20.

i dont know if you have been there for a while or not? it's been about a two weeks when i was there last there and it did not look at like there was much trash there!! no more than any other place that a lot of people gather to fish!!
but if i was to guess as to the real reason as to why the gate is up.. is that the lake water is comeing up so they dont want people down there makeing new roads or getting stuck in the bog's around the springs..
