I can't find any info on locomotive springs, I am taking a group of scouts out there in a few weeks and need to find info on the fishing. I can't seem to find anything online at the dwr or on any other sites. I need to know what kind of fish are there and if there is camping available. In the little info I have found I found there are multiple ponds and some are good fishing and some are not. Can anyone tell me where to fish there and what to fish for?

Thanks Cableguy

According to UTfishfinder their are rainbows and largemouth in those ponds. Here's what Utah gov has to say:

Locomotive Springs - Contains rainbow trout; a few largemouth bass. Access south from Snowville 21 miles on graveled road or I-15 to U-83. Near Corrine take paved road to graveled turnoff to Cedar Springs. Follow graveled road about 20 miles. No facilities; primitive camping. Trout limit 4.

Below is a link to a site with pictures of the area and some general information.

I was there last year with a few friends about this time of year. We did extremely well fishing for trout. Where I'd fish at would be right as you enter Locomotive springs there is a relatively deep hole. Fish this hole on the south east end and work your way around that deep pool. There are several spots to camp but right there on the south east end there is a big tree and some flat ground. I'd camp there. Mainly because that is the only tree around. We used pink powerbait and white and red combo turbobait. The rainbow powerbait worked ok too, and oh ya blue and orange turbobait. in the evening and morning around 6:30 to 7:30 or as the sun goes down throw some spinners. We nailed about 23 to 30 trout. There was a scout group across from us and they were also doing well. Hope this helps.

Locomotive springs is a fun place to fish when they are still planting the ponds. It only gets planted in the winter months....usually just until the end of March. There haven't been any LMB in the ponds in a few years, so UFF is wrong on that point. They used to be there, but not any more. You can catch planter bows and carp out there. I've even caught a succor or two, but they are not very commonplace. Most people do well with worms, powerbait, or spinners. I have a secret bait I use out there that seems to do well, but I aint lettin' that cat out of the bag. The main pond gets fished the heaviest, but also stocked the heaviest. You find it by looking for the chimney! There used to be a small house out there, but all that is standing is the chimney! Just west of the chimney, is a nice trout hole. It is kinda deep, and the fish like to hang out there. There is a little "jetty" that sticks out into the pond, and it is just right in front of it.

As far as camping goes, you can camp out there, but there is no shade (unless you are under some sagebrush), and the bugs can get quite bad. But it is an easy drive and a fun place to fish. If you are only going out for an overnighter, it should be fine.

Good luck, and have fun.

I have a map and a information sheet about Locomotive Springs. I will attach it if I can figure this computer out. Camping is primitive. Take your own water. There isn't any shade. Fishing is for rainbows and carp. Baker, Bar M and Teal are the ones mainly planted and fished. Acey
