It was a cold and windy day out on Utah Lake yesterday. No fish were jumpin and no carp to be seen. All we were catching was some small mud cats. All of a sudden I get this strike and my rod and reel go for a swim. I darted in after them. I thought they were gone for sure and then I felt something bump my leg. As I pick up my fishing rod I realize how cold the temperature of the water actually was. I get my rod and my wet self to shore and begin to reel this nice cat in. He gave a nice fight or was i shivering because of cold who knows. I get the fish in with fishluvr's help (as he is laughing his butt off).
Thanks everyone for a great day of fishing I will never forget
I was baptized into the bft yesterday. Call me brother wet. (lol)[cool]

[cool]I was wondering what the heck you were doing out in the water! Fishing was slow. I primarily was trying to land a stinking carp. I ended up netting one in the 5 lb range off of some hamburger bun and a drop of shad scent.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay for the food as I needed to get back home to help out with sick kids. It was fun to meet some of you there! I was the one in the "BYU Fishing" hat.
See you on the water!

Let me add a little bit of truth and flavor to Mike's post. All in all he hit some of the good points but he did leave out some of the fun facts. The story is true about everyone catching a small mud cat here and there but no real monsters were taking the bait. I had just missed a strike, probably another small mud cat, when I hear a yelp, yes a yelp, and look over to see Mike heading into the water. I personally didn't think he could move that fast and was very impressed with his high leg dancing form as he entered the water. The high pitched screaming he added to the mix reminded me of some kind of native rain dance. For those that didn't see this you really missed out. Mike will deny a lot of this but don't believe him, he is kind of crazy.
Just when I didn't think this show could get any better Mike decides he needed to go diving instead of just wading. At this point I still didn't know what in the world he was doing and didn't know if I needed to take my family and run the other way or if I should head over to help him out of the water. I decided to be brave and in between laughing fits I was able to make my way over to where he was just in time to hear the low volume muttering and not so pretty language.
This is about the point in the story where I finally realized what had happened. Mike looked like he was bobbing for apples when in reality he was trying to find his long lost fishing pole. As Mike continued to gurgle in the water he finally stood up with some line in his hand that eventually turned into his pole. He was able to make his way slowly back onto dry land, where the rest of the sane crowd knew better to stay, so he could reel in his little cat fish. He will disagree on the size but that's because his scale read about six pounds and somebody elses scale barely broke five.
I did skimp on the details of him reeling in this fish and shoud elaborate on this because this in and of itself was pure entertainment. As was mentioned before the wind was blowing cold and now Mike is wet from his lower chest on down. An interesting feeling happens when cold wind is blown through a man's wet pants and Mike was lucky enough to get to feel this thrilling sensation several times. Mike's reeling left much to be desired but considering how he had to keep bending over to protect himself from the wind it is understandable. He would get a couple good winds of the reel before he would screech again and bend over because the winds were blowing through wet pants. Again, this looked like some kind of strange indian dance and earned Mike several more laughs and taunts from us innocent onlookers.
Mike did finally get his little kitty onto shore so he could have a second to gain his composure, and his pride, which by this time the girlish screeches had pretty much wiped out. It was a sight to see and I wish I could have seen the look on his wife's face when he went back to the van soaking wet after she spent her day telling her kids to stay away from the water so they didn't get wet. Way to back up your wife with the discipline Mike!!!
Mike was a good sport about the whole incident, and the never ending ridicule and teasing he got afterwards by everyone at the party. Talk about a high light to a fishing trip. I for one am going to make sure Mike makes it to every upcoming BFT trip just for the entertainment value. It's going to be hard for him to top this stunt but with a little work and imagination I'm sure Mike will come up with something worth watching. This swimming excursion was well worth the cold weather. Maybe next time Mike you can charge money for the show!!
