WATER COLOR
Listed below are a few facts that can help in figuring out where the bass may be today.
Clear water tactics [li] The clearer the water, the deeper the bass. [/li] [li] Clear water will allow bass to roam more and not stay quite so tight to cover. [li] Clear water cools faster than stained water. [li] Use more natural colors in clear water. [li] Use willow leaf blades on your spinner bait in clear water. [li] Use more subtle lures in more natural colors in clear water. [li] Try a very erratic retrieve with lots of flash in clear water. [li] See how deep you can see a white spinner bait. Bass often hold at that depth or twice that depth.

Dirty Water Tactics [ul] [li]The dirtier and darker the water, the shallower the bass. [li]Stained water makes bass stay close to cover. Fish shallow and tight to cover. [li]Stained water warms faster than clear water. [li]Use brighter colors or black in stained water. [li] Use Colorado blades on your spinner bait in stained water. [li] In stained water use a worm or lizard with lots of action so bass can find your lure. [li] In stained water, use a less erratic retrieve. It is easier for bass to locate your lure. I was wondering, how would the wind fit into this?

A 40mph wind would shut down anyones fishing day. ha ha. A very mild breeze can be helpful whereas winds that are over 8mph can tend to put a hamper on the bite. I will generally use the wind predictions over the rain predictions especially when fishing for LMB.

i have found that wind helps locate baitfish as they will be on the bank that the wind is blowing at and when you find the baitfish you find the bass, but i agree with the 40 mile ahour wind might as well stay home or you will be found later floating but light wind and color will put you on top for nice bass.

Hi there daymere,
Fresh or salt probably the same. When the water is a milky jade green up close to shore, if there are any WSB in area, you can be assured they are on the bite!
As we know, lots of fish key in on a certian color of water and bite like crazy.

What I was wondering about concerning the wind. Due to the light deflection from the waves, should you approach this as "Dirty Water Tactics" or is clear water just that "Clear Water".

i would go dirty if water is stained

i have found that darker colors work better here on windy days as they see it beeter and some flash and noise also do very well

I would still recommend staying at home on days where there are 40mph winds.

me too i didnt want to get drowned or fly away to be fish bait

Thanks for the tips..I fish 2 ponds...one is stained and one is muddy. I do well in the stained one, but have a hard time in the clear pond. Maybe now I can tackle a few more bass there. I know that ther are some big ones in the clear pond, I have seen them there!!! It would be nice to see them on the end of my lure sometime!

Ok, just to establish my rookie-ness. Dirty water, and stained water are the same, right? I've seen these terms a lot over the past couple of years, and nobody has ever explained them to my satisfaction.

I'm thinking TubeN2 must have a good story about 40 mph winds. Al

Good call Al. I'd love to hear the story.
How about it tubeN2?
