Hello, I'm just wondering about Midview Reservoir, and/or Lake Borham. I believe they are the same place, is this correct? The state record smallmouth bass was caught here, why do we not hear anything about this lake? There are no reports about it from the DWR or utahfishfinder.com. Where is it located and is it still a productive smallmouth fishery? Thanks! I'm new to the site and have enjoyed everyone's posts over the last couple weeks. I look forward to conversing (and possible even fishing) with each of you. Josh.
Hey, Joshua. Welcome to BFT!

You are right. The two names are for the same lake. The name changed from Borham to Midview because ownership of the lake changed from the state to the Ute Indian Tribe.

I worked with Alan's (record holder) wife until she retired last year. Alan told me that there are still a lot of very good Smallies in there, but it is past it's prime and would probably not produce another record. Where is is Tribal owned, you would have to purchase a tribal permit. I don't know the daily, but an annual this year is $65. Then there is a daily boat permit fee of $10 for anything larger than a float tube. Yes pontoons have to pay as I found out the hard way.

The lake itself, is very hard to fish. There is not much structure at all, and as Alan told me; You have to look for depressions (sinkholes) in the bottom to find the big fish. That's tough work for a depth finder without having a very, very narrow cone.

Jordanelle is absolutely the best bet for a new record in the state as far as I know.

In addition to what Curtis said.....it was pretty much totally drained two years ago. I duck hunt on the indian land all around there, so I drove by it a lot that January. I would be surprised if it had more than 2 feet of water in any place....and it was frozen solid.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the update Shrimpboy. I can't imagine any of the Bass surviving a freeze like that.

I know the tribe will re-stock the lake, but with what? There were a fair number of Rainbows in there, and some carp too. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Thanks again for the update.
