Now that I pitched my ad in the title, and you bit...
Mindsoup wanted to go catch dinner yesterday, so I headed out of work a little early and up Neola canyon we went. We pulled out near a beaver pond a couple of miles up the U-Bar road, and started fishing.
The river is down quite a bit and we were snagging on everything. We kept downsizing the weight until we ended up removing it all together; fishing only with a half a worm on a size 8 to 10 hook.
That was the ticket for mindsoup. She tied into a 4" brookie and slingshotted it over her head setting the hook. I told her that they were small up there, but she forgot in the moment. The fish fell off the hook while in the air and landed in a pool of standing water behind us. I caught it by hand (not easily I might add) out of the pool and released it back in the river.
We moved up the river after not haqving much luck and noticing that 2 others had just fished through that section.
We found a really nice hole about halfway up the road to U-Bar ranch. It was a walk through the trees, but worth it. Mindsoup was busy tying on a new hook, so I drifted through the hole. Luck was with me and I caught the biggest fish I've caught in that stream with a 16" Brown.
Not to be outdone, Mindsoup followed with a fish I have only caught once. She caught a 12" Yellowstone Cutthroat. I tried to take pictures to show this fishes unique colors and qualities, but they didn't turn out. Mindsoup took the camera and of course, got some really nice pictures. I'll post them later today.
We each caught a Rainbow over 12" (OK, hers was bigger than mine) to take home and that gave us 2 fish each for dinner. Perfect with a potato and salad.
We released a number of smaller fish, mostly Brookies around 4-8".
