I was wondering if anybody has been up Beaver canyon and knows how much snow pack is left?

Don't know about that side, but the Piute side still looks like it has a lot of snow.

I checked the snotel site and it still has 50-60" of snow. It will be a while before it opens up.

Drove by Beaver yesterday and it looks like there is still lots of snow up there. I too am anxious to get up there this year before the water levels and flows diminish too much. Love Three Creeks, the upper Beaver River, and Merchant Creek. Been going there for 50 years since that was my Mom's home town.

It's my other home. I enjoy it the most before the tourists flood in and the lakes get planted.

I hear you there. The tourists really mess things up. When I was a kid we used to be able to camp right next to Merchant Creek. Then one year, some time in the late 70's I think, they closed camping next to the water. The reason, according to the Forest Service ranger, was a jerk from California. The ranger found this guy with his sewer hose in the creek and told him to take it out, which he did. Later that day or the next the ranger went back and the bum had it in the creek again so he kicked him off the mountain. Right after that they closed most camping in Merchant Valley where several generations of my family have camped. All it takes is one clown to screw it up for the rest of us. It still bums me out to this day to have to camp so far away from the water, if you can even find a place that is.

Or how about all those trailers people leave in all the popular or good spots all summer. I've made a couple nice camping spots up there and just get pushed out.

Every year I see more of those idiots all over the place and less locals.

Nice thing happening up here on the Manti lately, they are finally enforcing the 16 day camping limit and writing a few citations. Has helped some with the people leaving trailers in one spot for the whole darn summer. Does kinda gripe you though, when they've got the best spots all hogged up for long periods of time.[Tongue]

I've been camping in the same spot for 7 years now. I spent two months in that spot last year because of shoulder injury. One day some idiot leaves his trailer in the middle of our camp. I still camped there and left him a note to move his trailer. After 3 weeks of nobody coming up I moved it for them.

The BLM has started to crack down on this problem as well. They should really quit giving out tickets or warnings and just take them to the impound yard.

Amen. Just because you have a camper, doesn't mean it's like a log cabin where you can just set up shop and come and stay two weeks a year.

What I have observed with the 16 day limit is 3 or 4 locals get together early in the year and get the best spots. Then every couple of weeks they rotate their trailers among the 3 or 4 spots which gets them around the rule. So they hog the camping spots for a day or two a month worth of camping and leave what little is left for us that might want to spend several days in a row on the mountain. Not very honest is it. Too selfish to take their chances with the rest of society.
