We went to the Berry on Saturday. The only ice was in the bay at Bryants Fork. The road to Renegade is open but has a few patches of snow caused by the drifting during the snow season. The water was 39 degrees. We fished in the area around the boat ramp in our pontoon boats. When we started it was a beautiful morning, hardly any clouds and no wind, that changed quickly as it does at the Berry. The wind started around 9, by 10:30 it was getting miserable. Thank goodness for a small trolling motor. The fishing was great but the catching was a little slow. We only caught cutthroats. There were fat and fighters. I can't believe we were fishing the berry before May 1st. Good luck to all.

Hey Mike,

Danzilla and I were two of the four guys fishing from the shore south of the ramp. I am impressed with how heavy the cutthroats have gotten at Strawberry. No longer are they like reeling in snakes -- they can actually put up a good fight on the end of the line.

I caught three cutts (largest went 21 inches and just over 3 pounds), had one break my leader (should have checked it after landing a fish) and missed a couple bites. Not really hot, but great to be out. The best place seemed to be about 1/2 way between the boat ramp and the corner of the bay south of it. We tried flies and lures with no success. Resorted to using bait. Glitter PowerBait fished off the bottom, with a sinker below a clear bubble worked the best. Be sure to use enough leader to allow the bait to float above the seaweed and moss.

We fished the same area as Kent on Sunday, and when we were out in our tubes the fishing was decent (considering all of the wind and the snow) using green wooly buggers or a hammered brass spoon, but when we came closer to shore, and eventually on the shore when the toes got too cold, the fishing slowed way down. Most fish were caught on the edge of the weeds, which would have been difficult to reach from the shore.
