What are the campgrounds like at pelican? Do they fill up fast on the weekends? Generally how early would I have to get there to have a good chance of getting a spot? Thinking sometime in may

Very limited camping in that area. Pelican is kinda desert waste land lake. Sagebrush all around. Not much to do but fish.

I was told you want to get a room in town, the bugs are realy bad.

When I used to go there and the fishing was slow, we would ride dirt bikes in the back roads. That's about the only thing to do if you are not fishing.

Isn't pelican on blm land? I would think that you could just find a spot to park an rv and dry camp, but I've never been there.

I'd be interested in information on this, if anyone has any.

I camped there twice last summer. One time the bugs were really bad so the next time we went we took a screen tent to eat in. There weren't alot of people camping. The last time we were up there was over the last 3 day weekend of the summer and there was only one other group camping. For me there is only one other thing better than fishing and that is camping and fishing. Don't tell my husband I said that.LOL

The problem with camping at Pelican is not only the bugs but the lack of trees. There is little shade and refuge from the wind.

It used to be wide open in the late 70s. That was some of the best multipurpose camping grounds that I had ever been to.

If your in a trailer, pop-up or RV your fine. If your tenting things are a bit rougher. Many people camp right next to the lake, bad choice, there be bugs.

If you camp further from the lake the bugs are not bad. There is a loop road that has campsites, you'll have to get out and walk to find them as they are so overgrown. No firepits, tables or shade.

Other than that the camping is great.

are there any cheap hotels in the area?

The only hotels are in Vernal and Roosevelt. Both are about a 30 minute drive from Pelican.
