I'm gonna get back up there this weekend, this time with my toon. I was wondering what lures really nail the cutts up there. I was thinking black and white maraboo jigs, and maybe some small tubes, but I havn't got the first clue. Any help is highly appriciated. Thanks in advance!

I've always done really well up there trolling both flatfish and rapalas. Have done it from a boat as well as a canoe, and they work great! Last year the rusty colored one produced well (countdown), but I've also done well on the silver countdown and several other colors.
We've caught them trolling inline spinners like blue foxes, rooster tails, mepps, etc. too. Take along some clear bubbles too. Fill them with water clear full and put about 5 - 6 feet of leader below it. Then tie on a black wooly bugger, that can produce well too.

Ive done well with large tubes in smoke with silver black and red flakes, tipped with a nightcrawler.

RAPALAS ARE MY FIRST CHOICE EVERY TRIP CD#9 BLACK OVER GOLD AND PERCH ARE BOTH HOT TICKETS. REMEMBER TO USE LAGER MINNOW PATERNS IN SPRING TO MATCH SIZE OF PRESSANT BAITFISH. SMALLER LURES AFTER BAITFISH HATCH. TROLL AT 2.5 TO 3.0. CAST AND REEL FROM SHORE WITH A LITLE POP EVERY SECOND ORE THIRD ROTATION TO SIMMALATE INJURED PREY. HITS WILL NOT BE LITE AT ALL. CROSSINEYE

try a jig that looks just like a crawdad. you will find you get a lot of bigger fish. sports has some real close to the ones I sale but are a bit bigger. they look like the pic on the attachment I'm out or I would say you could get them from me I'm getting more in the next few weeks but that wont help you this weekend good luck.

I throw spoons whenever I go up to strawberry in my tube. It all depends on the conditions of the day as to which size and color I will use. I generally start out with a ¼ oz. rainbow trout colored daredevil spoon, and if I don’t turn up anything I will switch to a hammered brass in the same size. If neither of those turn out any fish I just go through my box switching spoons, one after another, till I find what they are liking that day. I’ve also had moderate luck closer to the shoreline casting Countdown Rapalas in perch or shad colors.

Thanks A lot!!! Now I can go beyond powerbait! lol. I'm gonna try and fit all your guys' suggestions in. I've got 2 days to work with, so It'll help quite a bit. Thanks again!

Funny, I haven't been to the berry for a while since I became a walleye addict (they are a step below a drug addict LOL). Last time I went there, I threw everything at them and they ate them all. It doesnt matter what color or shape your crankbait or lure comes in, they still bit them all. I was amazed at their willingness to bite just about everything. A friend was joking around and put a bubble gum on his hook and lowered the line, he had a fish chewing gum on his line! Then that same friend mentioned that his grandfather used to put potato wedge on his hook, he caught a huge trout. Dunno, but trout sure are dumb and very hungry. Probably on a suicidal trip to the live well...[cool]

When I was a teenager, I caught a LMB over 6 pounds out of Spring Lake on Velveeta cheese, so maybe the bass aren't geniuses either.

My all time favorite lure for both Strawberry and Scofiled has always been a #6 panther martin, in a yellow body with silver spinner -or- black body with a gold spinner. I'm sure lots of other spinners work just as well, its just that I've become so used to the way they feels. If a #6 isn't heavy enought for you go with a #9.. Good luck dude, let us know how you do..[cool]

The funnest fishing from a pontoon is to take your fly pole with full sinking line and puple mohair leech or wooly bugger. Black, brown and olive work good too. Slow presentation.

I never ceased to be amazed at how many different lures/flies/baits are the "go to" lures/flies/baits for the different fishermen/women at Strawberry -- and they all seem to work. One thing that I have noticed about Strawberry is that if something isn't working, try a different lure, or at least a different color. I have also noticed that often one lure or one color will work for awhile during the day, and then they stop hitting it but will hit a different one. Some of my favorites for Strawberry are, fresh minnows, rainbow Rapalas, Carter Spoons, various in-line spinners, a nightcrawler behind a flasher or all by itself -- and whatever else happens to catch my eye in my tackle box that day. Try them all (and don't be afraid to go extremely small -- such as a swedish pimple) trolled especially during the heat of the summer.

one of the best ones I have tried was one cableguy showed me. A rapalla taildancer in hot shad (the color). When we went fishing we could hardly keep them off it. I always have the best luck if I troll it and leave it alon for about 3 or 4 minutes then grab the pole and pull forward making the lure move faster as if it is trying to get away and Usually you will get a hit as soon as you start to pull,

theres no better lure at ice off on strawberry than a black beadheaded wooly bugger with full sinking line kicked nice and slow. be sure your holding onto your rod cause there gonna try to rip it out of your hand. im not a die hard fly fisherman ive just found big hairy buggers are the best thing this time of year if you dont have a flyrod use your spinning rod and a small split shot just enough to get it down and grip em' and rip em'.

Black maraboo jig if they're surface feeding. Rainbow Rapala in a model (floater, tail dancer, husky jerk, etc) that will dive to where they are if they're not surface feeding.

I agree with BEARCLAW a #6 Panther Martin black body with gold blade works almost anywhere. Try a smaller one on creeks.
I've found a real Berry killer is to drift a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce 3"curly tail jig with a piece of worm on it. This works best when the wind comes up between about 2pm -5pm. Cast out about 30-40' and set the pole down, the waves will do the jigging. The best thing about the jig is that the fish are hooked in the lip and you can release them without pulling out of the water.

one that i like is a red or brown klawdad behind popgear with about a 2' leader has done well also a sand colered tubes 2"

I like to use small like 1/16 ounce purple maribou jigs they work awsome. another thing that works well up there and are commonly overlooked are curltails, i only use them when i am drifting in my canoe, but it is awsome. i just drop them to the bottom on a good drift, and jig it up and let it fall. this technique works awsome! one of the best that i have ever used. another thing that works good is to just fly line a whole crawler, maybe use one really tiny split shot and just drift. i like to do this out of my float tube I just throw it out and paddle backwards slowly. i hope i have been some help! good fishing to ya!
