I have never been to Lake Powell. I understand that it is really big and would be better explored with a boat but I was wondering is there a place to take a four wheel drive close enough to the lake that I could access it and fish the shore line for small mouth bass? Are there smallies in the marinas or do you have to travel farther away to get into them?

Thanks Windriver

I take my pontoon to powell every year(except this one because my wife is due around the time we are supposed to go). I fish all the back bays around where we park the houseboat. I know this doesn't help you find a trail to drive in on, but a pontoon at powell has sure got me into a lot of good fish. There are areas along the marina that could easily be accessed by pontoon, and yes the are bass and some fun carp to hook in to also.

There are some great places to pontoon at powell. Drive to hite, cross over to the south side and there will be a dirt road about 2 miles past the marina that leads back to White Canyon. There is great fishing all allong this area. There is also camping allowed and I'm pretty sure a BLM pit toilet. Probably pretty far from the water now. I have been there several times and caught lots of Bass, Crappie, gills, a few eyes and cats. If the shad are in the backs of the canyons the stripers will be there also.

Hey Windriver buy a map and then call the park service. Lone rock is a easy place to get to and always some good fishing and camping.

Post your question on the Lake Powell message board, www.wayneswords.com.

Also ask about the water levels in Farley and White Canyons, since the low water level will affect access to the water.
Thanks guys.

I need to buy a good map. It is the water levels in individual canyons that will be hard to judge.

I've only been to BullFrog marina, but there were several primitive campground and losts of places where you could camp right up next to the shore. Easily accessed by a pontoon, with lots of lilttle coves to fish. Last year when I fished from shore at these little coves, I found a few brush piles with large bluegill, crappie and a largemouth here and there. Very fun to fish after spending the day cruising around on the main lake.
