I am new to the slc area and I hear everyone on the board talking about the I-80 ponds. I don't know anything about them. Where are they? What kind of fish are in them? Is there good acess for a pontoon boat? Are there any special fishing regulations?

no special regs...not really good access for any type of fishin but best fished from a tube or toon...saw one guy on a 10foot jon boat...cane poleing...ha ha. contains largemouth bass, bluegill, i have caught both...and the myth of crappies in there I have yet to prove to myself.
How to get there..two options, both go to the same spot...take I-80 westbound, or HWY201 westbound (aka 2100 south freeway). either one, when you get out to approx 130th west the two highways merge into one road, I-80, at this merger you want to stay in the far right lane, this turns into an exit only lane for a view area to look at the great salt lake, this is all about one mile before the tooele exit. stop and park in the east end of this view area. directly to the east you will see a pond that looks like a freeway water trap...it is not, its a spring fed pond, full of fish. take the gravel walkway down to it. caution, there is a 5 or 6 foot concrete pipe that runs the length of this pond, you will have to go over it at some point....but mostly once you go over it you have to go back over if you want to continue to another spot further east...so i suggest jumping up on top of the pipe and taking a quick survey of where you are before lugging all your gear over it...
good luck.

Well the myth is now official. I watched a guy 10 feet in front of me catch crappie, so they are in there.
