Went fishing in Idaho this weekend. Caught a 7 lb. Rainbow Trout. Its the biggest I have ever caught. He's 26 inches long with a 14 inch girth. Caught him on Berkleys powerbait Rainbow color. (Quarter sized ball on a single eagle claw hook with a slip sinker rig.)
Sorry.... I am not going to disclose the lake I caught him out of though. Think SE.
I was wondering if anyone knows a good taxidermist? (that can do it for around $11 an inch or so)
Pictures are comming soon.

Nice report and fish, was that the only fish you caught? I look forward to seeing that picture. We had a guy post on the site last year that said he did Taxidermist work for $12 an inch, I've sure someone on the site can help you more on that one. WH2

Send a PM to Taximan, he is a taxidermist on the site who has a shop in the Logan area.

I have a close friend who does taxidermy as well. Send me a pm if you are interested. He has done a ton of snakes and fish. It is excellent work. I dont think he charges 11 bucks an inch though. I think its less.

7lb in SE Idaho. Either Daniels Reservoir, or 24 Mile. Am I close?

The best taxidermist that I have ever seen is a friend of the family from Idaho. He is an engineer and taxidermy is an on-the-side hobby business. His artistic abilities on painting the fish and sculpting the body form are the best I have ever seen. The best part is that his price for us was only $8 an inch. We will pick up our second fish from him next week. P.M. me if you are interested and I can see if he has any openings. His turn around time is usually pretty long. On my wifes first fish she spent $11 per inch on a taxidermist in Salt Lake who wasn't waitlisting 6+ months. My wife paid for it with her own money and when she picked the fish up she was so dissappointed that she cried. If I had gone with her I would have refused to pay. Our taxidermist felt so sorry for us that he re-taxidermied the fish at no charge. I don't recall the name of the taxidermist, but it was a woman. Just be careful.

Can't be Daniels, no bait allowed there. There are some real hogs in that pond though.

If you hadn't said that you caught it on powerbait I would have guessed that you caught it out of one of the no bait, barbless hook and none under 20" places. That eliminates Daniels and 24 Mile. Everywhere else doesn't have very many older fish because of the drought.
If you guys have a fishing report or question about Idaho post it on the Idaho board.

BrianID, You are right. It is not any of the traditional trout fisheries there. It is one of freakish luck to say the least. But.... that's how it goes.
I did see a bumper sticker in Idaho that speaks volumes of truth. It said: SAVE Idaho... because Utah needs a place to fish!!!
