Hi,

I have a pond and I am looking to purchase some Channel Cats or Muddies

that are 6-14 inches. DOES ANYONE have any idea where to buy them in the

Salt Lake Valley?

Thanks,

Darren

You need to check with the DWR to get the proper permits...

If you need phone numbers, either ask for them, or just check DWR website for some contact information.

have you checked with the DWR to see where they get theirs? They could probably point you in the right direction...

I checked and they said they get theirs (cause of large volume) from southern AZ and also rarely from new Mexico and texas. WAY to far for me to drive. they could be too beat up =) and i dont want that. I wish they sold them at the pet store like the other huge fish LOL, man that would be easy, show them my permits and be like ok 50 2 lb channels please. LOL

Anyone else else have any ideas. I heard there is a place in MIDVALE called EARTH SYSTEMS? but i heard they only carry trout. any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

Darren

Did you ask if you would be allowed to catch your own and plant them in your pond?

[#ff0000]A person may not possess or transport live protected aquatic wildlife except
as provided by the Wildlife Code or the rules and proclamation of the Wildlife Board.[/#ff0000]

[#ff0000]Maybe you'd fall under the exception.[/#ff0000]

mateo -- that would be pretty difficult to do...the fish would have to be certified disease free before being able to transplant them...

WHY NOT HAVE THEM FLOWN IN. I USED TO WORK IN A FISH STORE WE HAD OUR FISH FLOWN FROM FLORIDA TO SAN DIEGO 4 TIMES A MONTH. I AM SURE THOSE COMPANIES WILL SHIP THEM FOR YOU.

I actually went to Earth systems in Midvale on Saturday looking for tadpoles. I used to buy tadpole for aquariums and ponds to help with algea. But they said the state no longer continued their license to sell life aquatic life to the public. They only sell plants, rocks, and pond stuff. But they used to sell smallies, blue gill and trout.

When the DWR issued you your permit, you should have received a list of state-approved vendors. Also, did they approve these fish for your pond? They have to be approved before you can purchase them. If they did, start calling vendors on your list.

Hope that helps.

I thought it was worth a try. I've never had my own pond so I don't know all the ins and outs and ups and downs.
