went to the ogden between storms today, and caught a coupla of browns.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the browns are chunky and healthier looking this year.
I'm amazed with the low flows last year that they look so good, compared with the last coupla years.

Maybe with the lower flows the fish were more concentrated and therefore easier to catch. Consequently more were harvested. Causing the ones left to have more food. Don't know for sure, but I was thinking the same thing.

I fished the ogden on May 4th and noticed the same thing: chunky, hard
fighting brown trout. I had not fished this river for a couple of years, and I was
surprised at the size of the trout.

The fish do seem to be doing well this year. Numbers are way up too. Dwr is encouraging the harvest of a few fish as well. What section did you hit?

Where on the Ogden river are you fishing. I was up near the mouth of the canyon earlier this year and had no luck at all

I entered the river just below the waterfall and fished upstream from there. You can park at the pulloff by the hotsprings.

I usually fish from the mouth down to monroe I have a coupla holes I like to hit, because I usually fish in the afternoon, and I've noticed that the canyon part usually gets pretty hard in the mornings and the arn't as active in the afternoons from morning pressure.
Plus every hole in the canyon is filled by three most days.
I'm heading back right now to target this nice brown I seen that was taunting me, just need to tie a new fly and I'm off.
