West River Deer Hunting Season Proposed
PIERRE, S.D. – Fewer one-tag licenses, more two-tag licenses and description changes for the season extensions are many of the items proposed for this year’s South Dakota’s West River deer season.
"Under this proposal, licenses would change from 6,875 one-tag licenses to 6,635 for 2004 and 17,095 two-tag licenses to 18,455 for 2004," said Game, Fish and Parks Regional Wildlife Manager Andy Lindbloom of Pierre. "The total number of tags available would increase from 41,065 in 2003 to 43,545 in 2004. An additional eight percent would be available to nonresidents." Lindbloom added that another change from last year would modify the description of the northern boundary for unit 27A.
Season dates would be Nov. 13-28 in most units. Exceptions would include: [ul] [li]Unit 30A (Gregory County) and unit 50A (Mellette County) – Nov. 6-9 and 22-28. [li]Unit 30B (Gregory County) and unit 50B (Mellette County) – Nov. 13-28. [li]Unit 64A (Ziebach County) and unit 24A (Dewey County) Nov. 6-28. [li]Unit 41B (Jones County), unit 45E (Lyman Co.) and unit 50C (Mellette County) – Oct. 2-10. [li]Antlerless deer tags in all units, Nov. 29 – Dec. 5 [li]Antlerless deer tags in all units, Jan. 1-9, 2005, only on private land not leased for public hunting. [/li][/ul]
