Has anyone tried that fish finder made for the shore angler? You know the one you cast out and read the screen on a wrist watch and it only cost 99$ I think its called the Smart Cast.

Yeah TIBBIZ, I got the SmartCast, RF-30 (wristwatch) a few months ago. For the shore fisherman (like I am most of the time) it's almost useless. But then again I primarily use it on Lake Mead, where wind and waves are a given. The advertised range was probable based on an indoor pool testing. If there is any kind of wind the range is drastically decreases. However if you're fishing from a boat or a tube, it works great. It tracks the bottom and structure real well. If you do get one I would recommend you get the one that attaches to the pole. The wristwatch is bulky and extremely uncomfortable.

I bought one knowing that it was a "novelty" and didn't expect great things from it. However, I have had a lot of fun with mine and it has been a far better investment than I ever thought it would be. I believe they have 3 models - wristwatch, freestanding base, or one that attaches to your rod. They didnt have the rod one when I bought mine so I have the watch. If I were to choose again right now I'd go with the rod attachment.
I've even taken mine on the Weber and had it help out tremendously in some spots I couldnt get to and wondered if it was worth the effort.
Everyone is correct though.....the range can vary quite a bit depending on waves, etc.
Bought it as a novelty, got my money's worth.

Thanks for the info Dave. I was considering getting one so I could try and see the different depths of streams and rivers I fish and maybe even a pond or lake.So it sounds like it might be worth the 99$ And if anything ,I'll have something to tinker with if I'm not catching any fish.

Thanks for your info rgreenland. Sounds like you and powermaker agree on the pole attachment model, so If I get one, thats probably the one I'll choose(if they have that particular model when I'm shoping.)
