Flow: 34cfs
Clarity: Excellent
Water Temperature: Mid 40’s
Major Food Organisms: Midges and baetis
Hatches: Midges and baetis
14 Day Forecast: Look for flows to stay in the 30-40 cfs range for several weeks. Expect good hatches of midges and baetis. The dry fly fishing is nothing short of excellent in this section of the South Platte River. Elevenmile Reservoir is slowly filling which is good new for improved summer flows.
Tips and Other Information: Nothing has changed, fishing is consistently good in Elevenmile Canyon. Anglers can expect a consistent baetis hatch every day between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. Effective flies have been #20 Hi-Vis Baetis, #20 Blue Duns, #20 Blue Wing Olives, #20 Parachute Adams, and #20 Sparkle Duns. Rainy and drizzly days will provide “dry fly days” we all dream about. As of late, several nice fish between 9-17 inches are feeding on the surface. Nymphing remains very productive with small mayfly and midge nymphs like #20-22 RS II’s, #20-22 Mercury Baetis, #20-22 Black Beauties, #20 Barr Emergers, #20 WD 40’s, #22 Mercury Blood Midge, and #24-26 Top Secret Midges. Fish are starting to eat San Juan Worms, #16-18 Red Copper Johns and #18 Red Pheasant Tails in the swifter riffles around the tunnels. Look for pmds soon!
Effective Patterns: #20-22 Dorsey’s Mercury Midge, #16-18 Red Copper John, #14 San Juan Worm, #20-22 Mercury Baetis, #20 Bead Head Barr’s Emerger (baetis), #20 Dorsey’s Mercury Pheasant Tails, #20-26 Parachute Adams, #22-24 Griffith Gnats, #22 Matt’s Midge, #22 Cannon’s Suspender Midge, #20 Sparkle Dun, #20 Blue Dun, and #20-24 Hi-Vis Baetis.
