Hit Jordanelle today from about 9-2:30. It was a pretty slow day due to the big cool off. A friend and I ended up with a little over 30 perchskies, 4 fat smallies, and two rainbows (13" and 18").

It should only get better from here on out with the warm weather moving in! I love those smallies! You can sure tell when you've hooked into one....especially on ultra light tackle. We might have had a more productive day if it weren't for the darn wind. Also, I had to cut away my brand new anchor when we couldn't get it unlodged from the rocks.

That sucks about the anchor, I hate that when that happends[mad][mad][mad]

It sucks about the anchor... did you try powering the boat to rip it out of the rocks? Try circling around the area where the anchor is stuck, and pull it out from all 360 degrees?

Yep...we tried for almost 20 min to get it out. We tried from all angles. We tried powering it out with the boat and almost sank ourselves. The real bad part is that it is only in about 6 or 7 feet of water. If the water doesn't come up too much this week and if it's a really warm afternoon, then I'm going to go after it. It's got a bright orange rope hanging off of it to help me find it.

[#800080][size 2]If you marked the spot, you should be able to get without diving before the end of the month or just after the 4th of July(they start releasing bigtime after the 4th).[/size][/#800080]

Well, I'm always up for a challenge. I have a 4/3 mm surfing wetsuit, and I love to dive into deep waters, so let me know the next time you go to the 'nell and I will dive in to pull that sucker out for you. Not a problem![cool]

I would love to get my 3 young sons into some perch. Any advice?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Will you be fishing from shore or from a boat?

Fishing from the bank is still a little harder than from a boat because we haven't had a really long warm spell yet, but this week's weather might change that. If you're on shore, then look for the structure. Flooded oak brush is a good bet. If it's pretty thick, then you're better off using a bobber with a chunk of worm below it. If you've got a clear shot in front of you, then I'd put a 1/8 oz egg sinker above about 18" of leader with some worm.

If you're in a boat, then park yourself far enough from some of the shore structure that you're sitting over about 15 feet of water. Then just drop down basically any small jig tipped with either some worm or some perch meat. We found our best luck by picking it up 12-18" from the bottom and just "dead sticking" it (we just let the motion of the waves on the boat do the jigging). Doing this you'll definitely catch perch, but don't be surprised when your stick bends hard after a trout or smallie takes off with it. If you have ultra-lite gear, then I'd suggest using that. It makes it all the more fun.

By the time we get to the end of June, you can't get a small jig to the bottom of any submerged structure that's in at least 3 feet of water. The perchskies just swarm it. There are SO MANY perch in Jordanelle. Don't be afraid to take some limits out. The big ones make for good eating and the small ones work great for fertilizer and cut bait.

One more thing I forgot to mention. If you don't like the size of perch you're catching, then move. They seem to school up by age class.

Yesterday at jordanelle there were some guys fishing buy the personal watercraft boat dock with a half of worm under a bobber and they could not keep the perch of there line. They would get hit within 10 seconds of throwing out there worms. this was at the hailstone side. Hope this helps.

There were some people fishing off of those docks while we were there too. They were given warnings from the park rangers and told that if they tried it again that they'd get a ticket. There's a sign right there that says "no fishing."

You can catch a lot of perch right next to the main boat ramp by the boat storage dock. There are alo some chubs, trout, and SMB to be had right there. Try a worm with a bobber. It has worked for me in the past.
