I am heading to Pelican Lake on Thursday and will be there through the weekend. Has anyone fished it lately? The weatherman says it is supposed to warm up.[ Like I believe them.] What are your suggestions for getting into some of those bass?As always thanks for the info.

I generally go to Pelican in late May early June. By then it is usually pretty warm. I like to go for big bluegill and they are generally in deeper water by then. I would imagine that the bass are the same. Early in the day some bigger bass may be in shallow. If you can't find some bass, fish for bluegill! Use a black body, chartreuse tail curly tail jig on a black head 1/8 oz. (small hook). tip with worm. I use ultralight outfits with 4lb. test line. Just go in the middle and drift. Cast jig and let it sink a little before reeling. You'll catch bluegill all day. Have a blast![

I've always fished for bass in there with a little white spinner bait, right along the reed line. I've limited out in 30 minutes using that tactic. The bigger fish, for me atleast, always seem to be deep within the reeds. So I flip way back in, and retrieve at a good pace. I've got a couple 3lbers like that. I usually always use a 6'6" spinning rod with 8-10lb. line on. I've never broken a fish off in there, besides one of those giant channels. Good luck! I hope you really nock em dead!

I'd ask "Where's Kayote when you need him?", but he is probably on Pelican right now. He can tell you a lot more about it than I can. I really don't fish there often. I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

Thanks for the info. I have fished it a couple of times, was just wondering if things had changed much. I use a medium ugly stick it is good for just about everything I fish for. I normally use 6lb. test but when fishing for wiper I use 8lb.
I was also wondering where Kayote was maybe he will have an update fopr me. I will post a report when I get back.

Just talked to a DWR guy in Vernal (Dan). My Buddy and I are planning on going to either the Gorge or Pelican this Thursday and was trying to get info. for a decesion. In short, the up and down weather, cold snaps, etc. have kind of messed things up. The Gorge should start in this weekend. Pelican; apparently is a little different story. The blues and bass have been hanging deep but the warm weather should help. But, they've been drawing down for irregation and it's getting too shallow for the reeds along shore!!!!!! He said that the best bet would probably be the reed islands. Makes it kind of tough for us float tube guys. Sounds like it's going to be a tough year for Pelican and bugs. If you got give a report. I'll do the same. Good fishing!

Thanks for the input leaky. Are you going for just one day or a couple? I know what you mean about getting to the reed islands. We use a raft so it takes a little while to get there but is fun anyway. Maybe I will see you up there. Are you taking Sparky?

Ice,
Well, we just decided to wait a week and then try the Gorge for 2-3 days. We're going to do some local fishing tomorrow. I hope we made the right decesion. The weekend may be great but we aren't weekend people. Let us know how you do.
