We left the monsoon of SLC Friday evening to head out to the Uintah basin for a relaxing weekend. When we got to about Fruitland it was nice, very little clouds and blue skys.

Saturday morning we headed off to Moon Lake fish for the day, the temp. was a good 60 degrees, but the "W" was in full effect. we tried to shore fish the main lake but the wind was not cooperating, so we headed down below the dam, to the spillway pond and to the hydro pond. We fished a bit down there with only small fish, really small 6 inch trout. After a bit we took off to go fish some of my "honey holes for browns" irrigation canals in Altonah utah, but the "W" wasnt cooperating, i tried flies and couldnt get them to even land in the water, tried the heaviest lures and jigs i could find to out weigh the "W" but it won.

Sunday morning we got up early cause i had reserved a fishing boat at Moon Lake. When we got up there at 7:30 am I got to see 4 ft white caps for the first time in my life on Moon lake. The weather itself was nice, just alot of "W" They suggested I cancel my reservation, so I sat and talked to one of the guys that works the lodge, (very nice guy) He told me that the lake is doing very well, the Kokes are definitely in more supply in the lake and are healthier than ever, and the DWR told him not to be surprised if some 20 + lb splake come out of there this year. I guess the splake are doing a excellent job eliminating chubs and also mountain white fish.

I asked him my eternal burning question: Is there any Macks in the depths of Moon Lake?? The old boys and workers at Moon lake are very tight lipped about this. the DWR said there is no confirmed reports of plantings in the past, and say there is still only 3 bodies of water in Utah with macks in them and Moon lake isnt one of them. Well his response to my question was very vague only saying that some big fish have been caught out of the lake. And these big fish are not rainbows or browns!!! The deepest part of moon lake i have seen with my sonar is over 400 feet deep, but some say it goes much deeper. I have heard rumored in the past of lake trout in there and the myths of how they got there, but I guess i will just have to spend a weekend and throw a line down there and see what comes up.

We tried to fish Sand wash sunday evening but I didnt bring my surf casting stuff!!! [sly] the waves in the wind was 5 feet!!! They are definitely getting ready for the enlargement of that water next year, it will be interesting.

All in all I did accomplish what I went out there for and that was to relax. The weather itself wasnt too bad, but the "W" was uncooperative. When I get my pictures developed I will have some picts of fish the girlfriend caught cheating!!! I will post that later

Man, I was gonna stop by Sandwash sunday night. Glad I didn't now! The "W" out there was horible! I'm kinda glad we didn't stay all weekend. Too bad you couldn't cast out. I don't think too many people in the basin could this weekend, though.
