CANJILON LAKES The lakes were recently stocked but we had no report from
anglers this week.
CHARETTE LAKES Fishing is good using power bait, spinners, prop flies under
a bubble and salmon egg/corn combinations for trout up to 19 inches.
CIMARRON RIVER Water flow below Eagle Nest is 28cfs. Fishing is good using
worms and bead head prince nymphs for trout. Fishing at the Gravel Pit lakes
is slow-to-fair using corn, power bait and salmon eggs for trout.
CLAYTON LAKE Strong winds kept the crowds down and made for difficult
fishing over the past weekend. Anglers who ventured out managed to catch a
few walleye and trout. Best baits were spinners and power bait.
COCHITI LAKE Good fishing for some and horrible for others. Being in the
right place at the right time with the right bait provided good action for
white bass, crappie, walleye, northern pike and largemouth bass. Several
pike in the 25-to-30 inch class were taken this past week along with
largemouth bass up to three pounds. Tubes and senkos were the most
productive, while grubs, crank baits and night crawlers took some good size
walleye. Most of the crappie were taken on small minnows and crappie jigs.
CONCHAS LAKE Chartreuse/pepper grubs, chartreuse, fire tiger or white crank
baits and tubes continue to provide good walleye, white bass and smallmouth
bass action. Good reports have come in from the north and south sides of the
lake. Some good size crappie are also being taken on minnows and crappie
jigs. Fishing for catfish continues to improve with best baits being liver,
night crawlers, dough bait and shrimp. A few bluegill are being taken on
small flies and worms.
COYOTE CREEK Fishing is good using salmon eggs, worms and bead head nymphs
for trout.
EAGLE NEST LAKE The south boat ramp has opened but at this time there is no
boat dock in place. Bank fishing is good using power bait, salmon eggs and
worms for trout. Anglers using worms are also picking up some good size
perch.
HOPEWELL There were no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE MALOYA/
LAKE ALICE Windy conditions slowed fishing and fishing pressure
over the past weekend. Some small trout were taken and primary baits were
power bait and salmon eggs.
LOS PINOS Fishing is fair-to-good using spinners, copper john barrs, worms
and salmon eggs for trout.
MAXWELL LAKE 13 There were no reports from anglers this week.
MCALLISTER LAKE Wind was the big story again this week. Bank fishing was
fair using spinners, power bait and salmon eggs for trout.
MONASTERY LAKE Fishing is good using power bait, corn and salmon eggs for
trout. A few are also being taken on prop flies, spinners and spoons.
MORPHY LAKE Fishing is fair-to-good using prop flies, spinners, spoons,
power bait and salmon eggs for trout.
PECOS RIVER Water flow near the town of Pecos is 175cfs. Fishing is very
good using spinners, stimulators, bead head nymphs, power bait and worms.
Anglers using flies also reported good success on the Mora.
RED RIVER Water flow near Questa is 72cfs. Fishing is good on the main river
and on the forks using bead head prince nymphs, worms, spinners and power
bait for trout.
RIO GRANDE Water flow below Cochiti Lake is 1,260cfs. Fishing is rated as
sporadic but a few good size largemouth bass, catfish and northern pike have
been taken on night crawlers and liver. Water flow at the Taos Junction
Bridge is 1,000cfs. Fishing is fair using spinners, jerk baits, wooly
buggers, worms and power bait for trout. A few are also being taken on dry
flies fished in the evening hours.
SPRINGER LAKE Closed to public fishing.
STORRIE LAKE Water levels continue to rise and the boat ramp has reopened.
Fishing is fair using power bait, corn and worms for trout.
UTE LAKE Anglers fishing for bass and walleye were the only ones who
reported any success over the past weekend. Saturday was a windy blowout but
Sunday fishing produced some limits of walleye, some white bass and lots of
smallmouth bass. Trolling and casting crank baits provided the best action
but several walleye were also taken on grubs and bottom bouncer/night
crawler rigs. The larger smallmouth bass were taken on senkos fished in
brushy areas.
