Hi all,

I am new to the forum. I recently discover the fun of Surf Fishing and really liked it. Do any of you know where I can get mussle for bait? Dana Point Harbor is my preferred location. Is it legal for me to get mussle for bait in So Cal? What is the limit if it is legal? Please help. Thanks

Hello there gotnick, Welcome to the BFT message boards. When you are fishing on or around piers in CA there are generally an abundant supply of mussels on the pier pileings. If an area is not corded of fenced off then the mussels are free game and you can harvest up to 10lbs of fresh mussels.

Some people use Pier Gaffs to pull them loose from the pileing as well. Good luck and happy fishing. Please feel free to post any questions that you may have. We are glad to help out.

No problem buddy. I hope you do well with your fishing in that area.

I do alot of Pier and Surf fishing myself. I fish mostly from Santa Barbara all the way down to Newport Beach. We may even cross lines someday.

Happy Fishing.

Hey there gotnick,

Welcome to BFT and the California boards. Especially nice to see a new surf anglers. TubeN2 hits the pier pretty hard so there is lots of questions to bounce off him.

Do you have a float tube? I fish mostly saltwater and am now hitting the sporties pretty hard.

If you have a chance get in on the grunion run the next few days as a silver krocidile just might get you a halibut that is chasing them up to the waterline.
