I too landed my first eye very unexpectedly. I was using a 3" olive grub trying to find some spawing white bass. It must have been a hold over from the spawn. It measure out at 26".
No white bass action to report[

Nice fish, I had one that same size down there last year. Way to go.

Were did you catch it?

Around the Center Street bridge area of the Provo River. I've fished down there a bunch lately and have never seen anyone hook an eye there. I assumed they wouldn't like to hang out in that section. I guess I should never assume . . .

[cool]Wow! Nice fish, dude! I had no idea there was anything in that section of the river besides brown trout! Guess now I now. Did you keep him and fry him up, or did you turn him loose?

All I can say is WOW nice fish.

Normally I am a strict C&R kind of guy, but I have heard everyone here rave about how tasty walleye was, so that beautiful fish came home and fed 4 adults rather nicely. We cooked half on the grill in foil with butter and spices. The other half was chopped into fish-stick size portions and battered in Italian bread crumbs and served with dill-sauce.
I'm thinking the next time I land a nice eye, it may be coming home again. Although my C&R roots still nag at me that I should have let it go.

I like to C/R a lot also. But, sometimes a lil eatin' is a good thing too. A bit of selective harvest goes a long ways.
As far as eyes, the old gals and guys have done their duties for the year so its now time for us to do ours by chewing on a few to make room for the youngsters.

Terrific fish, congratulations !!!!! That was undoubtedly a thrill!.

Now that's a first Walleye! Congrats on the catch! Even the most strict C&R's can enjoy a feast now and then without feeling guilt. There are plenty of Eyes in the area that taking a few home for dinner will not hurt the population, and as has been said, would probably help some. Not to mention what a tasty meal they make.
Congratulations again on a fine catch.

Thankyou everyone for your kind responses. It defitnally was a thrill. One I hope to duplicate intentionally this summer.

Great fish, That definitely exceeds my first walleye every caught or any walleye I have caught. Congrats on the fish [cool]

Great, so what your saying is, expect them to get smaller[
][
]. What is the biggest walleye you all have caught? I saw the C&R record for Utah was a bit over 31". That is just massive.

My best was 27 inches but only one that big. All my other big ones have been around 24 inches (And not too many of them either!).
