[red] Has anyone been fishing up to Hyrum lately, and how is it right now? I have a friend that wants to go up there this week and was wondering if the fishing is any good right now. Any help is appreciated.[/red]

I went to Hyrum last weekend with my brother and kids and we fished from the dam. We got there about 6:45 AM and fished from shore with no success. We tried lures, bait, flies and only had one light strike on the fly.

I spoke with friends who were out there on boats last weekend and was told that the fishing was really slow. The resevoir is very full and the water was clear. Hyrum was supposed to be one of the hotspots in Northern Utah but I was disappointed. I usually have great success up there from the shore.

After three hours we drove a few miles to Wellsville and the fish were surfacing all over. We pulled them in on power bait, worms, top water lures and flies behind bobbers. I'm not sure if you are planning on fishing from the shore or not but I found Wellsville Pond to be excellent all day long. Most rainbows were around 10-12 inches but we did land a few over 16 inches.

Good Luck.

Dan! Whatcha been up to buddy? I fished Hyrum a few weeks back. Caught half a dozen stocker sized bows. Only fished it for a few hours as we had fished Mantua earlier in the day. Nothin to write home about. Of course this report is a few weeks old..

I fished it last week for a few hours. I was using a down rigger and usually always catch a fish that way. I used a orange flat fish and a rainbow rapala with good success. Will try to get to it this week end again.
