Not sure what you call it down yonder but up here it's known as "bait fish"

Nice try, but if you were caught using one of these bad boys for bait you'd be in for a hefty fine, since it's listed on the Federal Endangered Species List. Oops, that's another hint now too! [crazy][blush]

Hehe. I wouldn't want that to happen.

I had susptions as to what it was, and now you mentioned that it is on the protected program, I can almost say for a fact that it is a "long jaw cisco"

Nice guess, but try again! It lives in the Colorado River drainage system.

This is what I found online...

Colorado Squawfish (Ptychocheilus lucius) a.k.a. Colorado pikeminnow

interesting fish.....

That's correct!! Nice job fishermom! It used to be called the Colorado squawfish, but for political correctness (to not offend any native americans) it was recently changed to the Colorado Pikeminnow.

the pike minnow is related to the trout family is it not?
[signature]
I don't think they're related. I believe the pikeminnow is actually in the minnow family. In fact, it's the largest member of the minnow family (same family as carp). In historic times, there were reports of pikeminnows that topped 5 ft long!!
