Forecasting for the fishing week of July 5th - July 11th, 2002

Fisheries update - The sturgeon show is continuing to be a challenge for many anglers in the estuary. Sculpin- the scourge of the Columbia is a real problem down river of the Astoria/Megler Bridge. The John Day Ramp is consistent for Tongue Point anglers and the sculpin are far fewer.

Oversize fishing remains steady and the shad are still providing much action. The season opener for summer chinook was respectable on some days- especially in the Bonneville area. Fluctuating water levels is making it challenging to fish. Down river, anglers are catching a mix of summer steelhead and chinook. Most anglers are targeting steelhead and are able to take home fin-clipped summer chinook.

The ocean opens up on Sunday for fin-clipped coho and any chinook of legal size. It should be great! The Sandy River is clearing and is starting to produce fish again. Clackamas anglers are taking fewer springers but steelheading remains good.

The Santiams are producing a mix of springers and summer steelhead. John Day and Umpqua Rivers are providing quality smallmouth fishing. The offshore salmon season opens July 7th allowing the retention of fin-clipped coho. Offshore bottom fishing is excellent. Scheduled to be stocked this week are Carmen, Trail Bridge and Detroit Reservoirs, Leaburg Lake, The upper McKenzie and North Fork Santiam Rivers and Quartzville Creek.

Have this report e-mailed to you weekly or sign up for our full version with tips, forecasts, and professional guide's advice!
http://www.TheGuidesForecast.com/

Get more Oregon fishing information at
http://www.theguidesforecast.com
