TOO HOT FOR ARIZONA CONVICTS ???

It's even hotter than usual in Phoenix, 116 degrees sets a new record,
the Associated Press reports:

About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment
at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down
to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their
bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside
the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat
collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzo't, an inmate who
has lived in the tents for 1 1/2 years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long
ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna
sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic.

He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees
in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they didn't
commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths. "

KIND OF PUTS THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE DOESN'T IT?

YA GOTTA LOVE THIS SHERIFF...

[black]I think more states should follow Arizona's lead. A winter in a tent camp near Randolph, UT would straighten a few guys up to going straight.[/black]

I've read this before. It really put some things in perspective. Convicts that belong in jail have way too many perks. I have had several relitives that have gone to prison for various things and only one of them made something out of himself. Back in the mid-sixtys he took some computer classes and when he got out he was hired immediately and became a computer anlyist. He's now retired and doing well. He is the only good thing I know that came out of prison. Al

I wish they'd do stuff like that more often! I think the criminals deserve every bit of it. They shouldn't live in some poche country club jail like the nice one in Davis County.

Too Hot!! Maybe they should have thought about that before they committed the crime that landed their sorry butts in jail.

I lived in Phoenix for 5 years - not only is it hot and that prison is the best thing, but the sheriff has saved the county millions over the years with this single project...

I wonder if that sheriff would consider running for president. I'd vote for him.

That would sure freeze off their litttle pink socks, their little pink boxers and their dangling dark blue, half frozen......... never mind.[cool]
