Pecos River - July 28th, 2004

Pecos River: Big rains last weekend and river is up and murky. Use bigger flies (including nymphs) and take your summer rain gear. Good on upper tributaries and into the designated Wilderness.

Rio Grande River - July 28th, 2004

Rio Grande: A slug of weekend water has temporarily raised the river at Pilar, but try the park section for smallmouth on crawfish and streamers.

Rio Chama River - July 28th, 2004

Chama River Watershed: Water at both dams has been cut to 10% of last week's flows. A muddy wreck below Abiquiu and pretty murky, too, below El Vado. Headwaters are good for those willing to hike in above the "landslide" area.

Jemez Area Streams - July 28th, 2004

FISHING: Fair
Jemez Area Streams: Very busy with campers and hikers on weekends but careful fishing for small resident browns has been good. Water is somewhat colored from recent rains.

San Juan River - July 28th, 2004

The San Juan is at 500 cfs with 3 -4 feet visibility

FLOWS--500 CFS

CONDITIONS--fluctuating with 3-4 feet visibity

HATCHES - Midges and Baetis with some caddis and PMD's

FLIES -
Zebra and Bumblebee pupa size 24
Thread body cdc baetis grey and chocolate size 22
Tav's Threadbody with legs chocolate and gray size 22
Mono Midge, gray, olive/black and gray/black size 24
Prince nymph size 18(below Simon Canyon)
PMD nymphs and dries size 18(below Simon Canyon)
Parachute Adams size 22-24
Dead Raccoon size 12
Tav's single midge size 24
Tav's GG size 20


FISHING CONDITIONS - The river levels have gone up and down for the last two weeks The fishing is still good to excellent and the hatches are good. Look for the midges( mono midge) hatching everywhere to be the main diet in the morning and Baetis in the afternoon. Smaller midges are still working above Texas Hole, as well as baetis in the faster water directly above the T-hole in the main channel. The baetis hatch is still very good and a few fish are rising to them in the afternoon.

14-DAY FORECAST - Summer is here, and we are getting into our thunderstorm season. Bring your rainjacket. The fishing is always good, but right now the fishing is excellent. We are seeing a real good number of big fish and the sight fishing is getting better! Come see why the San Juan is the hottest fishing in the southwest

Navajo Lake - July 24th, 2004

Navajo Lake is fishing great for carp as well as early top water bass, pike fishing is slow and will start to pick up this fall. Fished the ant fall on the lake this year and had a client pick up a 25" brown that was up on the ants, what a thrill to see that fish and wow what a fight!
