Largemouth bass and rainbow trout are being caught at the lake. Bass are taking small spinners and crank baits while the trout are hitting PowerBait and marshmallows.
Bass were not stocked in the lake and are possibly the result of unlawful plants into the Lincoln County lake.
Because of the hot weather, most anglers have been fishing in the early morning hours and then head for home by mid-morning. Those who have tried their luck during the past week have found some action, but the fishing for striped and largemouth bass has been only fair.
Anglers have told the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) that they have been catching stripers that range from 1 to 3 pounds in the center channel from the 33 Hole to Government Wash to Boxcar Cove. The fish are hitting a variety of top water lures, jigs and by trolling and downrigging.
There has been sporadic success for stripers at Hemenway Fishing Point and fairly consistent action at the tires at Lake Mead Marina. The fishing has been poor around Callville Bay and at Special Event Beach.
An angler who was fishing from shore on Tuesday (8/3/04) morning said he saw a large number of threadfin shad at Pumphouse Cove. However, stripers were not feeding on the small baitfish.
A pair of bass fishermen told NDOW creel census clerks that they caught and released several largemouth bass and two smallmouth bass while fishing at Fire Cove in the Overton Arm. Creel clerks did not see any stripers over the weekend at the cleaning station at Overton Beach Marina.
Channel catfish continue to bite throughout the lake. The best fishing for catfish has been taking place after dark for anglers who are using anchovies for bait.

A pair of boaters who were fishing near Willow Beach on Saturday (7/31/04) night were rewarded for their efforts with stripers that weighed 25 and 23 pounds. The fish were taken with a yellow Bomber Long A lure and a rubber trout imitation lure.
Anglers who were on hand for last Friday’s (7/30/04) trout plant at Willow Beach had fairly good success, which included several limits of 10 rainbows. The next plant is scheduled to take place on Friday (8/6/04).
A boater who was fishing around Cottonwood Cove over the weekend said he caught a large number of 12-inch stripers by trolling with a chrome Kastmaster. Anglers are also using anchovies and squid to catch the fish.
Largemouth bass fishing has been good to excellent at Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs, according to NDOW. Anglers are using spinner baits and artificial worms and grubs to catch the fish. The bass are averaging 11 inches in length.
Rainbow trout fishing has slowed because the water temperature is now in the mid 70s. Even so, anglers have managed to catch a few trout that weigh around 1½ pounds during the past week. They are being taken at the dams at Cold Springs and Haymeadow with PowerBait.
