This picture is one of two butts at 40 pounds. Joe hooked one earlier and netted it but the halibut broke through the net and swam down. Immediately he got another strike and got another 40 pounder to the surface. He was able to net this fish in the same net with a hole in it while the first 40 pounder reclined on the bottom, that one finely broke off.I think he tied the net into a giant knot to get the one pictured. Both fish were hooked just outside the Alamitos Bay jetty in about 15 feet of water. Joe fishes daily for halibut with 4 rods. If you have fished in Long Beach harbor much, you will know Joes old time commercial type boat drifting aimlessly from sun up to sun down.(TRY AS MAY, I CANNOT GET THE PICTURE INTO THIS STORY, IT SAYS THE PHOTO EXCEEDS THE 250?)
