I hiked the 1.5 miles from Silver Lake Flat to Silver Lake today. Nice hike and caught 7 fat brookies. I left as the sun was going down and went back to Silver Lake Flat and caught 15 more fish. They were about half rainbows and half brookies. All were caught on flies and were released to be caught again next time.

Welcome to the boards and congrats on a fun trip. I must say I am jealous because I have always wanted to hike to Silver Lake and fish. It is awesome watching the brookies swim around in the crystal clear water. What did you catch them on? Thanks for the report, it's good to hear of one of the prettiest places in Utah being used but not abused.

Sounds like fun too me as well. What flies were working the best? What time of day did you catch most of them at? I love the hike going up there it is an awesome place.
I too would like to know what kind of flies you were using and were you in a tube. Ive only fished there once and used spinners and a few different flies and didnt catch a thng in 5 hours i only saw one fish caught

I use a fly and bubble. They took renegade, captain, red and yellow ant. The yellow ant was the best. All were size #12. Even though there were a few fish jumping all the fish I caught were right on the bottom. I either caught fish or snagged weeds. Since it's 2.3 miles and 1500 feet higher I didn't think to take my float tube. I guess I'm a wimp because I passed a couple coming down with two tiny little kids and a baby carraige. They spent the night camped by the lake. I don't think you would do better with a tube anyway, since the deepest part is next to the rocks on the west side.

I forgot to mention that I fished from 4-6 PM at Silver Lake and from 6:30 to dark at Silver Flat Reservoir.

How low was silver flat?

I would guess that it is down 15-20 feet below high water line.
