2 days ago......I went out with Matt Peterson..............
He made a comment.......

Len. now I am ruined for small trout.....
It won't ever be the same anymore....

I rolled out of bed this morning.......6am.......
Looked outside..........overcast.....slightly sprinkling.......
I thought......Good day for fishing..........

On the water at 6:45...........

First fish about a 12 incher........
Didn't even break a Smile........
was actually annoyed.......
I unhooked it and thought to myself.......great you spooked this sweet run.........
Now NO bigguns will hit......

5 trout later........about a 16 incher...........
Still no real feeling of accomplishment........

another few small ones..........
Just like a machine......
No Smile.........

As I walked............
I thought about my recent way of thinking.....

What heck has happened?
My drive for BIG fish has kinda skewed my approach to fishing.....

Went to the last hole of the day......
A rock faced hole.......just below it......
I approached the hole from a different way than usual......
Thought I might come at water from a different angle and cause a BIG fish to hit.........

First cast............
looped the cast over a log..........
Tried to get just a little too far........
Gave it just a tweek and it landed just at the face of the log......

Got the slack out of my line........and low and behold there was a trout on the end..............

I brought in the trout fairly easily......

It got to shore and there was a 19-21ish male brown with a nice hook jaw.........

Because the fish hadn't fought very hard and it was a whoops cast in the first place..........

I just looked at the trout and thought......It doesn't look like it is hooked very well............
If i let it flounder in shallows it will get off........and it did.......

Have I lost my edge?

All the way back to the truck I thought about the entire outing.....

I am in a quandry..........

[cool]So what are you saying spinner -is it better to catch a little fighting fool or catch a huge dude that is limp on your line? I guess looks has nothing to do with action. Don't tell that to your wife or girl friend.[Tongue]

Hey there spinner,

Here in southern California saltwater 50 or 60 fish days fishing for calico bass is not really unusual.

My remedy is to try a bunch of off the wall ways to catch them or fish for something other than them. Sometimes when we hit the groove right away and it doesn't change...... bordom ought to set in!

[cool][#005028]Now that would have been worth taking a picture of! I mean the big Smile on Anna's face. Priceless.[/#005028]

have you lost your edge?, I think not, more so it is a lesson in humillity. we need a reminder once in a while to be able to keep a reality check, and to realy aprecieate the blessings of quality fishing...[cool]

so those days like the one you have discribed are welcome around my fishing hole, (just so every day isnt like that [Tongue])
