i have gone down to the lower weber 2 times now, and both times i have gotten into the bass. there are enough down there to actually fish for! I found a canal which is an offshoot of the weber and there is no current in it at all. i used a rooster tail and caught 15 or so, all about 5 inches long. but i did get one about a pound. there are also very large green sunfish in the same canal i caught 10 or so of those.. i caught all of the fish on a rooster tail. what i want to know is how did the bass get into the weber river? and dont say echo because there is only small mouth in echo. did they come from that gravel pit at the end of harrison blvd? i was told that there are bass in that.

I'd bet they got there via 5 gallon bucket...but I guess they could have come from pineview, the Ogden joins the weber just east of I-15. Just my guess though.

There are several ponds near twelve street and the old highway that have bass in them. I have had students talk about all the bass and what they called bluegills they were catching in those ponds. It wouldn't take much to get them into the river if the pond over flowed into a canal. It seems like that was mentioned last spring. The canal had alot of bass in it and then it dried up. the bass probably went into the weber. I hope this helps solve your mystery.

the ponds close to 12th street in the cement impoundment are private in case anyone is going to run out there. hey cat pm me sometime if you want to hit the river i live right out here. i never knew largemouth were in there myself.

Am I alone in wishing there was less places to fish for bass, perch, catfish, etc... and more places for trout.

You are probably not alone, but I am puzzled by your statement. Unless I am Confused, in Utah, there are far more places to fish for trout than there are places to fish for the species you listed.

I agree, there are far more places to fish for trout than warmwater species. Don't complain so much, you got it better than us warmwater chasers.

The 21st street pond has had bass in it for 20+ years.I have seen small bass get sucked in the pipe of the out let at that pond.I have also caught large mouth in the Ogden River and lower Weber River,as well as smallies. The D.W.R did plant smallies in the Weber River by 24th street about fifteen years ago or more. But I don't think they ever did very good in that part of the river. They also planted channel cats and walleye in the Weber years ago.I would suggest throwing those Bass back if you catch any because trout don't do well in the lower Ogden and Weber. There is too much pollution, and the water gets to warm and oxigen depleted for trout.I would like to know wich canal you were fishing in Utcatman if you don't mind telling us. Don't worry I won't Rape your spot.
