I had a great day at Rockport today. Got my toon on the water at day break. I was the first one there this morning. I started getting hits as soon as I put my line in the water with most of them being perch in the 8" to 9" range. I started at the boat ramp. The water temp was 49* and I was in 15' to 25' of water. As the sun came up over the ridge, I noticed several hot air balloons coming up over the mountain to the south west of the lake. A little later in the morning I could hear an Elk bugeling over to the north west. As the sun started to shine on the west side of the lake, the autumn hills awoke and burst into color. As I was taking all of this in, the perch action continued to be red hot. I was fishing with a pimple and a booger tipped with worm. Most of the fish were hanging out on the bottom but a school would pass by from time to time in the mid depths of the lake. I would reel up to that depth and pick up a few more perch there. I brought one rainbow up to my toon only to have it get off just as it broke water. It spit out a white booger and dissipered into the depths. I changed to a green booger later in the morning and netted a nice 16" bow. I also kept 10 nice perch and will have a nice fish and rice dinner tonight. As I left for home I looked back across the lake and saw smoke comming up about 50 yards to the north of the boat ramp. I pulled over and looked at someone's boat going up in flames. I called 9-1-1 and reported the fire. They said that someone else had already called it in and the fire trucks were on their way. I just had to watch and think to myself that I sure had a lot better day than those folks did. I called for BFT members on channel 12 several times through the day but never got a call back. The water temp rose to 56* by noon day. Now I will be able to relax and wait for ICE before my next trip to Rockport. Is it winter yet? DKS.
