why buy coverscents when you can make your own and have them coustom blended to fit the exact area your hunting ?
face it , $3.00 to $20.00 for coverscent made from stuff hundreds or thousands of miles away from your area are just going to alert the deer or other big game animals that theres something different about the area and put them on alert . that's gonna put you at risk of being detected .
making your own coverscent is easy and it will fit the exact area your hunting .
gather materials from the trees near your stand or blind placement , pine needels , tree leaves , rotting wood , ferns and grasses . keep each one seperate from the other .
get a big old soup pot from the flea market or resale shop and scrub it clean , real clean , remove any build up or stains with sandpaper or steel wool .
seperatly boil the ingreadients in the pot with distilled water untill you have a mixture as thick as truckdriver's coffee , strain into a pot using a coffee filter for cooling then put into freeser bags alowing for some expantion . lable each one (fern scent, pine scent, wood scent , ect...)
get yourself some old spray bottles and clean them good , store them in there own baggy too , lable the bottles .
thaugh the homemade scent and put them in the bottles before you go hunting . you did it yourself , its coustom blended to your hunt area , and you saved yourself some money that will be better spent on that trophy mount that will be soon hanging on your wall .
hey , if you ever forget your cover scent at home or in the car , grab some ferns , roll them back and forth between your palms to crush them releasing there oils and then rub them over your clothes . this neturalises any oders you may have .
you can do the same with pine needels , but they only cover your scent , dosen't netrualise them .
