[black]Went out with a friend of mine to Mantua today and did ok. We caught half a dozen bass and around 20-25 bluegill. About half of the gills went 8-10" and the other half were dinks. The bass were all under 12". We fished from 10:30am to 3:30pm. [/black]

[black]We started out for bass but it got a little breezy so we anchored up and caught bluegill the rest of the afternoon. [/black]

[black]Caught the bass on a variety of crankbaits and caught the gill on 1/32 oz heads with pumpkinseed plastic beetle bodies suspended 4 ft below a bobber. We fish off the rocks in 7 ft of water south of the point.[/black]

no perch?

I have fished there maybe 5 times and have hooked 1 perch - I even fished for them once, they are fun to catch on UL tackle. Where are all the perch that are taking the lake over?

Thanks for including lures/location - nothing worse(imo) than saying "I caught alot of fish but cant tell you where or on what" - what the hell is the point of even posting that?

[black]No perch. I did have one good size perch follow a shad rap right to the boat but it never did take the lure. Hope the info does you and others some good. I don't fish Mantua much but I do know it can be a little fickled. Predator is the only guy I know that can consistantly catch fish there. Good luck and hope you can get into the fish.[/black]

Ah! you see, BLM has been paying attention. He knew to throw cranks at them up there.

Seems to me that your interest in the arena of "small fish" Is indeed becoming quite your specialty.

Especially considering that you will be spending two weeks in a row chasing small fish while bear lake is coming on.

[black]I have no specialties. I'm lucky to catch a fish once in a while. Heck, I'd rather argue politics with southernman! HA![/black]

[black]I did pay attention and to my amazement, I caught bass on cranks. Not tons and not big'un but I caught bass. [/black]

[black]You're just jealous I'm going to Powell for 5 days and you have to work. When I get back, we're headed for the Bear but we'll have to use your truck. Some 82 yr old woman totaled mine yesterday and I don't expect it will be fixed before then. I swear, if I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Some times it sucks to be me...[/black]
