Worked the Lincoln Beach side to the first springs from 6:30 - 4:30. Rought day fishing. Caught 3 White Bass, all very small and skinny, fowl hooked a huge carp that had some awesome coloring on its fins, hooked a 4-5 pound (guessing) Largemouth around some structure in 7 feet deep water then lost it just before landing it, and finished the day off with a nice almost 23 inch 5 pound Walleye.

Overall it was really slow for fishing, fish finder found several fish but they weren't biting much. Caught these off of small Punkin Seed rubber fingerling jigs with a slow retrieve.

This being my first walleye, I right away noticed the behavior of a predator, didn't see him until just before landing him. Stayed deep as long as he could.

And those TEETH! Have a battle wound from removing the jig.

I know what you mean full contact. It was like looking at a grid with all the HOOK'ers. About 20 or so were out in the same first spring area fishing. Can only imagine how it is in the spring or late fall.

Sorry for the delay in my full fishing Report. Here she is.

Fishing was Slow. I started out at 6:30 AM by launching @ the old Lincoln Beach Dock. The water level is only about 6 inches in this area. DO NOT LAUNCH FROM HERE. You can launch down past this dock if you follow the road that goes past the Lincoln Beach marina towards the far springs.

After launch I spent a good hour zipping around the lake getting to know my newly aquired trolling motor on my pontoon. Once I got it going I hooked up the fish finder and started cruising to find fish. Several were found however a majority of them were in a non-active state on the ground. I am guessing these were catfish. I wasn't after catfish as I have caught more than I can handle and had a species in mind..... Walleye.

I was using a variety of plastics, lures, jigs, spinners, and spoons but didn't have any hits or hookups until 11. I was using a white single tail grub on a 1/4 oz jig and hooked into 3 small skinny white bass. One after another in the same spot. Must have hit a school. Once I caught 3 they must have moved on because I couldnt catch a thing. I tossed around a pumpkin colored jig for a bit and hooked something big and a fighter. When I got it close after about 20 minutes of wearing down the poor brute I found I fowl hooked a huge carp by its lower part of the body towards the tail, which explains why it fought so hard. This carp had amazing coloring of red and violet on its tail. Let this one go and it swam off quick like a bunny. Hooked a big Largemouth Bass near some structure in 7-8 foot of water. Lost him before I could land em. Looked to be around 4-5 pounds.

Fished for 4 more hours with not even as much as a hit. On my way trolling back to where I launched to pack of for the day I hooked into something. Felt like a bit catfish by its long movements. Once I got it close (after about 15 minutes) I tried to bring it up to get a peak at it, and it wouldn't give. It took off taking my line again and staying on the bottom. I knew I had something that I hadn't caught before in Utah Lake. I thought to myself, Walleye! Once I wore it down a bit more, I finally got a peak, a nice 22-23 inch 5 pound Walleye! It had a creamy white coloring like most fish out of Utah lake. I was going to keep this one. I went to retrieve my jig from its mouth without plyers and it was a big mistake. The eye as I was takign out the hook made a sudden move and sunk one of its teeth into my right index finger. I flinched like a wimp and it made a pretty decent gash on my finger. Ah well, it was worth it! Afterall, I caught my first WALLEYE!

This being my first Walleye and I had heard from other anglers that they were excellent eating so I saved this one for dinner. IT WAS TASTY!

Overall fishing was very slow. Action was quick for a few minutes for the white bass then everything seemed to stop. I asked around to other fellow anglers and none of them were catching a thing. So I don't feel so bad. I can only imagine the fishing will pick up for the walleye once we get another cold front.
