I have never fished with a licenced guide but I have fished with my dad many times. I guess that would count as a guide because he is knowledged and experienced in many bodies of water throughout the US.
I plan on hiring a guide someday in the future when I decide to go somewhere that my dad hasn't been to........Fat chance but there will be some little body of water somewhere.[cool]

Tried it a few years ago on the great lakes and found it not to my likeing. The shack was below par for the night and he decided the shut off my buddys supply of crawdads because he was having a hard time hooking up. He preseeded to cut night crawlers into four pieces with a pair of scissors and told him thats all he gets.[mad] All this for $150.00 a day.[crazy] Needless to say we have never been back and will not go on a guided trip again. We'll just fish local and figure it out for ourselfs.

Hey there theangler,
Been on both ends of the deal. Guided in Japan for 8 years during University Spring and Summer vacations. Fished wth Florida and Texas guides.
I've been thinking about going down to SD and try out the local SD bay fly fishing guru/guide. Heard some good reports on his trips. Now might be the time to go!

not with a paid guid to speak of.
but when it comes time to target a marlin or a shark or tuna you can bet that my time will be limited and I know my best chance of even hooking in to one will depend greatly upon the skills and experiences of a local guide.
So I will deffanantly rely on a guide when traveling. From my past experiences with family and buddies who have shown me the ins and outs that with out some previous knolage you are just out there to enjoy the day.

It was a great time because he was constantly stroking my ego and offered me a job as a guide.
