Well my one and only superstition has to do with bananas! I have fished the ocean and fresh water and it didnt matter what water i was fishing bananas gave me and my family bad luck fishing! One time me and the mrs.ocean went yellowtail fishing in islamorada and everyone around us was catching tails left and right! We were between everyone so we did have a great spot on the boat. The mate couldnt figure out why we werent catching any fish then he saw my wife getting ready to eat a banana and he freaked out!H emade us throw the bananas away !But as soon as the mrs threw them overboard we got bites the rest of the afternoon![sly] That was the weirdest thing i have experienced.Another time i was out in the ocean and we were into a scholl of tuna and low and behold the "chiquita "banana freighter made its way by us and bam the fishing just died! So we moved and got into kingfish .My daughter had the same experience at e-lake.All of us got into steady fishing and she couldnt buy a bite she tried everyones rod and nothing.I told her she needed to get rid of her banana she brought and when she did she caught her limit.

Must wear my lucky fishing hat, tried to break in a new one,no good. The old one was once black, now its kind of dirty faded grey.It is really a ugly hat now.Got it in Alaska, maybe thats why it's lucky[crazy]

Wow sounds like bannanas are lucky if you ask me. I'm thinking now I should take them a long fish for an hour and then get rid of them. That way fishing may suck for a hour or so but as soon as I ditch the bannana fishing will be great

LOL

A new hat spells bad luck for me also. I have to wear a new hat for several days of fishing before I start to do good. I keep an old hat in my RV at all times just in case I need it. I wish that hat makers could break their hats in so we don't have to waste our time doing it. The worst thing is that the same thing happens to me when I am hunting.
Too little time - Too many new hats - What's a guy to do???

I had a fishing guide up in Alaska that "bananas are bad juju" on a boat. He checked to make sure none were brought on board.
Around here I haven’t seen a difference with a banana or non-banana fishing trips. But I have heard the superstitions.

I also tend to have varying luck with different hats. I can't figure that one out.

My best luck is a fifty-cent piece I won on a blackjack table in Wendover. With that coin in my pocket, I have never been skunked, fishing or at the tables. I can always win. I don’t necessarily catch the most or the biggest fish, but I have always caught some. I once left it home and no fish. Big mistake.
Never leave home without it.

When I was a kid and went fishing with my dad, we always would eat vienna sausage sandwiches and we would never come home with an empty kreel. To this day, whenever I go fishing and don't take along the vienna sausage sandwich, most of the time I come home empty handed, but when I pack a lunch with the sandwiches, boom! I catch fish.
Call it dumb luck but when the fish aren't biting, all I have to do is take a bite of a sandwich, and I get a hit.

I always take small munchies or snacks to eat.....if the fishing gets slow, it seems every time i eat something i get something.
and i have a ritual as to how i cast and strip out line after each fish.

Maybe throwing them overboard is just good chum

When in doubt - put a hook it it!

I always spit in the water first thing...I started doing after my Mom would ask if I spit in the water for good luck. Ha ha, long story short it is yet to make a difference for me but you can bet I'll be doing it forever as per tradition.

I agree with you on this one Jeff. [Wink]

I was going to say just the opposite, that spiting in the water was back luck.... go figure

Have always heard eating bananas were bad luck while fishing, pouring whine on the deck of oyur boat is good luck and always take a compass.

Oh and while ice fishing never fish out of a yellow hole [Wink]

Only one. Never ever ever catch a fish on the first cast!! One time fishing at Yuba on Jan 1st, new years day, I boated across the lake, pulled up towards shore and cast into about five inches of water. BAM! Fish on!! 26" Walleye. Didn't get another bite all day. That has happened a couple times at Utah Lake also. First cast, nice eye. Not another fish all day. Now I tend to cast out and reel in my first cast real fast. Get that one out of the way.
