The morning started off really lousy with starting at 4:30 AM when I was pooring mouth wash into my mouth and the bottle "malfunctioned" and shot a shot of listerine up my nose, and in my left eye. I flushed the eye and hopped in the car to departure right on schedule to Pineview. My sinuses however were completely swollen and clogged all day which sucked.
On the drive to Pineview in Kaysville my front strap for the pontoon was blown by violent winds and it came undone. The front of the pontoon went flapping up in the air like a wind on a plane taking off. I stopped on the freeway and re-secured the pontoon on the roof and added 2 more straps for protection. After about a 10 minute interlude I was back on the road to meet Petty @ Smiths. I arrived 10 minutes late, getting there, but Petty was waiting. After a brief stop we were back on the road for a 10 minute drive to Pineview.
When I arrived I was greeted by MGB and cclaeys. We all launched just before sun up and started working our way to the Northern Arm to hunt for muskys. We all had numerous bumps but nothing hooked upuntil about an hour later. I caught 3 perch and had a pretty big hit that got away, felt like a bass strike.
We all stopped off and met up with FishingWaters and his friend Mike for some of his salsa testing in the middle of the northern arm, can I saw DAMN GOOD? Thanks for the snack, it got my blood moving and kept me warm.
We all decided after that to head to the "Ladders" to pitch for some Bass and see if we could find where the Musky were hiding. Thanks to cclaeys for towing me over there. Saved my battery time bigtime!
I found fish in the 20-40 deep range and started pitching Rapalas, jigs, tubes, and spinnerbaits at em to try and get one to bite but they didn't want to cooperate. I started working my way back to the North arm since I had had so much luck there in the past for Musky and on my way I noticed a couple muskys playing on the shore. I started casting out for em and hooked a 33-34 incher. I radio'd to Chris and told him I had a musky and a minute later the entire BFT entourage was there checking it out. Great bunch of people BTW....
About 2 hours later my battery was dying for my motor so I packed up the toon and hopped onboard with FishingWaters to continue the hunt for the musky.
We couldnt get them to bite. We decided to play with the perch for a while so we did til we caught a few. Then we went back to the mouth of the Ladders to try and get the Bass to bite. We tried everything from jigging to drop shotting senkos to playing with tubes and didn't get any bumps. FishingWaters wife called and warned him that a storm was moving in and soon enough we were being rained on, so we went back to the launch spot and packe dup and left.
Some fluffy clouds @ Pineview.
It was great meeting all of you BFT'ers and was awesome seeing so many who had the Tiger fever. It's too bad they didn't want to cooperate and eat our lures. Maybe next time.
Thanks for joining me on this hunt, Musky are very finicky so maybe we can catch them when they are more active.
