Anyone noticing any rising water levels in the lakes or eservoirs near you?Just curious to see if all the snow and rain have made any difference.

Even though it may not pertain to fishing, I have noticed that since last Saturday the mudflat north and west of Farmington Bay is now wet. Saturday the wind was coming from the south and creating the much dreaded dust storms we've experienced all summer. Now from highway 89 I can see the mudflat is covered with a couple inches of water. Anyone know if airboats can run out there now?

The most important thing is the snow pack, which as of today is looking good, especially with more wet weather in the forecast.

Definately is making a difference. Lower Bells Reservoir is now around 7-8 Feet deep and the runoff from the creek is much higher.

southern utah has been getting hammered with the wet, however Lake Powell has actually gone down about 3" since this last storm.....

It's too early to be excited about the status of this drought...

Lake Powell is such a massive body of water, that it is going to take SEVERAL big wet years (such as this upcoming winter that's off to a great start) before that lake comes back up. That's what the weather guys said anyway. There's no way that Powell will rise 130 ft in one year. You should however, see it come up pretty well next spring.

As for the lakes in Northern Utah, one huge winter (like 150% of normal snowpack-like winter of '92-'93) should help bring them back to normal, or close to it. May take two big snow years to do it though.

Anyhooters, we're off to a great start so far, and let's just all keep doing the rain/snow dance, or pray, or whatever it is we do to hope for a continued big winter!!

water experts predict that it will take 7 years of 100% snow packs to fill reservoirs to normal consistantly. lots of variables involved on that one. i do know if the water owners namely the groups who own rights to watersheds dont do their part it could be 10000% of normal and never recover. the way they run water for irrigation water rights and power needs takes all the held water sheds and lets them loose. mostly during the months of dry times. the lakes almost always fill up during spring its how long they will let the water stay in there.

I know hey said it was going to take seven years to fill the nelle when it first started filling. But then the big winter of 92-93 did 4 years worth of filling all by its self.

As far as Lake Powell goes it is fed from a large area and even if a couple of drainages had 92-93 like snow. Somewhere else in the draingage may still have drought conditions. And another thing we have to remember at the start of the drought Pres. Clinton flooded the Grand Canyon and the practice of spring floods has been followed yearly since. So even if we see full in Powell again it may lowered to mimic spring floods in the canyon below.
