Well finally got some time to hit the lake. Didn't have but a few hours but had fun anyways. This tubing thing is tough if you don't do it a lot. Right off the gitgo I was screwed, I failed to follow the first rule of tubing. I spaced limiting my liquid intake, that was very annoyinng. Sorry to let ya down [#0000ff]TubeDude[/#0000ff][#000000], I'll try not to let it happen again. The rod rack I made didn't work quite the way I thought, it looked real good sitting on top of my pool table, but didn't work in the water (modifications are in the works). Also I need to find a way to put on the waders without making my under clothes ride up. I't official my Smartcast is headed for the dump. It wouldn't read deeper than 30'. Even at 30' it was flakey at best. All in all it was nice to get out on the water again, didn't catch anything. But maybe next time.[/#000000]

Hey there Powermaker. It's good to see that you are grasping some of the concepts of tubing. "Only water and tubes can be mixed" the other liquids must wait their turn.

That doesn't present such a problem in the warmer months when you can go waderless.[Wink].

Don't forget to leave adjustablility with your rod rack. Once you've got it to fit your unit correctly, then you can go a little more permanent.( That's why they invented the bungee cord)

You might want to try some duct tape to firmly secure your boxers to your legs so that they don't crawl up on you.[laugh] ha ha.

Keep us posted as to your success and even the failures if you would like. There is alot that we can learn from each other.

[cool][#0000ff]Tubing is definitely a "learn by doing" thing. Every new lesson stays with you, but you can get frustrated along the way.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Most of us learn the hard way...WHAT GOES IN, MUST COME OUT. Hitting the coffee heavy on the way to the water and then a couple of cold ones while on the water, and you will feel the need to "download". The colder the water, the faster your kidneys seem to work.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The waders and "riding up" thing I am assuming means your pants or sweat pants. I pull my socks up over the bottom of my britches before putting on the waders. You can also use a big rubber band. For colder water, I have a pair of "wader pants" that have a stirrup in them, to help hold them down while you pull up the waders. And, as has been suggested, good old duct tape will do the job, as will thick masking tape.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Rod racks need to be installed and adjusted before you hit the water. After you have made and used a few, you get a feel for what is needed. Until you do, it is guesswork and adjustment until you get the rods to ride just the way you want. As TN2 suggests, be sure to leave a few extra inches of cord to allow for tightening or loosening the rack, to get it just right. Once you have it set, you usually don't have to worry about it again. You can cinch up the knots and even heat weld the nylon together with a lighter to keep the knots from coming undone. Just be careful where you aim the flame. Don't wanna burn a hole in the air chamber.[/#0000ff]

Hi there TubeDude,

On my rod/utility rack I have holders I can adjust to 4 different angles (rod holders) and at first I used cotter keys but now I just use coat hanger wire bent so that it doesn't back out of the thru-holes in the PVC seat and inserted pipe.

This idea also works great when you have different things to insert into a given slot. Example: I can mount either my little foldable anchor and rope reel or my dog-leash tether line (34 feet max) in the same two PVC mount seats (T-joints).

Hi there TubeN2,

No truer words were ever spoken ...... I'd rather hear ten stories about stuff that seemed right but didn't work than 2 that worked just so so! I seem to learn better that way.

Besides ...... we can probably say ya.. been there or close to it! ha ha ha

Thanks for all the tips. I really need to get out more often so all this becomes instinct or at least maybe a habit.

I use fleece lounge pants for under my waders. They don't have the elastic around the bottom. I just tuck them into my socks and it works great!

My dad had one of those fishfinders for about a day. He returned it the next day. He now has a Cuda168.

Happy fishing!

Hey Nate, do you know if Utah Lake has frozen over yet? It seemed like it was frozen from UVSC looking down, looked like there were 1 or two open areas where cracked had formed but I'm not sure.

What ya been up to lately? I'm trying to survive this semester and make it without failing any classes.

I have no idea. I haven't been down there to check things out. As you now know, having a wife and kiddies can cut down on the fishing time. Oh yea, work/school gets in the way too.

[cool][#0000ff]I always said that work is the single biggest interference with a man's recreation schedule. Of course, family and responsibilities kinda play a big part in setting your priorities too.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Right now, we are planning to at least make a drive by at Lincoln Beach on Saturday. If there is open water, we may try to scare up the makin's for a walleye dinner. Otherwise, we will continue south to Yuba and try to find some open water to dunk the donuts.[/#0000ff]

[cool]Hey, good luck on that tubin trip, TubeDude. Hope you can find open water at Lincoln Beach, so you can catch big 'ol Ms. Wally. Also a shorter drive as well. I need to get some bigger waders and bigger boots so I can put on more layers for winter tubing. Never did it before that last Utah Lake trip, but it was fun, even if all I hooked up with were involuntary releases!

As for me, I'm headed for the hard water this weekend at Scofield. Hope to get into some nice 18 inch 'Bows, and maybe a cut or two as well for my grill.

Tight Lines!

[cool][#0000ff]Good luck on Scofield this weekend. Hope you guys have a good time and ice a few nice fish too.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There should be some specials on waders after Christmas. We need to get you set up with the right gear for cold water tubin'. Some of the best fishing of the year is just before iceup and just after iceout. If you are properly attired, it can be both enjoyable and productive. Without the right layers, you can become an unhappy camper (tuber) in a hurry.[/#0000ff]

Good luck on your search! I'm afraid the next free time I will have is over Christmas break. Not alot of places to dunk donuts then. Catch a few for me! nate
